Hi all
I went for a dating scan last night. I thought I was 6.5 weeks (according to my dates from LMP) however sonagrapher said I measured at 5.5wks. That's no problem to me but it the dawned on me that I thought a heartbeat and fetal pole wouldn't be visable (abdominal scan) until 6.5wks at least. So now I'm worried that I really am 6.5wks and baby is not growing properly.....anyone else experienced this?

This may be a stupid question but are you sure there was a heartbeat? Not meaning to be negative or even suggest mc, but maybe you measured 5.5 weeks but there is no heartbeat yet?

It's pretty unusual to see a heartbeat that early on as far as I know. I had a scan at 5wks 4 days and could see the yolk sac and fetal pole but that was all. You might be further on than 5.5wks, it's a matter of millimetres at this stage that they can easily get wrong, especially if they are using older equipment.

baby's heart starts beating at 5 weeks, I guess it's so tiny maybe they don't always see it on ultrasound but according to my reading it's totally possible

with this preg bubs was measuring a week behind my dates and by 13 wks was measuring ahead. so hopefully you are the same

We saw a heartbeat at just over five weeks. Sometimes you can  And that weas my first pregnancy, I KNEW my dates

Sometimes it's the angle of measurement. Not sure when they can move, but when I went in for my 8 week scan this one was measuring a week behind. Then it apparently stretched out and measured right on dates.

I had exactly the same issue only a few weeks ago - thought I was 6.3 days but I was only 5 weeks! Saw nothing - freaked out for a week or so then saw the heartbeat since then baby has caught up to my expected dates

Yes, definitely was a heartbeat, even the sonographer pointed it out. I'm starting to think at my 12 week scan I'll measure according to my LMP dates again.
Will keep you updated (if I remember - preggy brain!)

was your scan done transvaginally? sometimes they pick up a heart beat and fetal pole when done this way
