Hi, just wondering if anyone can answer a few questions I have regarding scars (from abdominal surgery) and pregnancy...

I'm not pregnant yet but DP and I are planning to get pregnant. I had my gall bladder out in May but it was laparascopic pregnancy. I think I remember hearing somewhere about scars rupturing or splitting open but I can't for the life of me remember where! Anyway my question was can scars split open due to all the stretching, etc of the skin?

I have put on a wee bit of weight since May (about 4kg) and have noticed they are a bit sore, kinda stretchmark sore/itchy.

Hope that makes sense! Thanks in advance!

I had lap surgery just before I got pregnant, so had fresh scars, and although they stretched a lot (and wandered all over my tummy, it was funny watching their progress as my skin stretched!), they didn't post any problems.

You might just find you need to use alot of moisturisers etc or something like bio oil. A good oil for stretch marks could work too.

I had my gallbladder out when DS was 6 weeks old. The scars stretched a bit during my pregnancy with Hailey. But didn't come to any harm.

I had a rather large mole removed from my tummy about 15 years ago and it left quite a big scar. With DD1 it just stretched a bit, but DD2 it was the start of a massive stretch mark - and its the only one I got! Luckily it heads downwards into my pubic area, was a bit gutted that it caused a stretch mark in the second pregnancy though as I was alot smaller second time round

Im in the exact same boat as you! I asked the surgeon and then my GP who both said the same thing, to avoid getting pregnant for one or two months after surgery if possible and then its all fine!

I think you will be fine Nic, people can/do get PG 3 months after having a c section (a lot bigger scar and also a scar in your uterus (which I think is where you are getting the rupture from.. the 'increased' risk of uterine rupture for a VBAC)). If you are worried tho, check with your GP before hand
