fruit n veg is supposed to be good, right? A few months ago I started having homemade smoothies most days. I put loads of stuff in, much of which I would never otherwise eat, or only occasionally eg; celery, banana, spinach, pineapple, other fruits, raw red cabbage, spirulina powder smoothed out with some barkers syrup and some good fruit juice. Such a good way to get loadsa nutrients quickly. And, I'm sure it must be good for the bowels.

fruit smoothies are good yes but you have to watch the sugar content.

I just spoke to A midwife, she said to eat lots of fruit as a way to keep energy up, as well as almonds and dry savoury biscuits..so can't be too bad. It's natural sugar after all. As long as you're not cramming it in in other ways.

I read somewhere that if you can put your feet up on a wee stool (pardon the pun, lol) while sitting on the loo and leaning forward a little, almost so you are in a kind of squatting position, it opens up the bowels better. (Now am wondering why the hell I was reading about this. Not my usual type of reading material, lol). Good Luck TP

Rovic that sounds right, squatting is a much more natural, open position. There are arguments that western toilets cause a lot of health problems.

I was stopped up something chronic on the weekend. Drank almost a litre of kiwicrush and within a day the problem had resolved itself. Now I just have to remember to have a glass a day to make sure it doesnt happen again.

Troutpout, I am still laughing at your post, what a sad world we live eh! The sacrifices they will never know, lol.

I swear by 2 kiwifruit a day, great at mo cos they are in season. I also bought a bottle of prune juice as this saved me from any probs after a c-section last time,(haven't needed it yet). Had a glass a day in hospital, as you get really sensitive about any extra pushing after the birth. And frankly who needs it!

My other saver, although a pretty powerful natural laxtive is something I bought in a healthfood shop in oz, consisting of prunes, figs etc etc, sort of like a bar, but didn't need much and timed it right so was around my own bathroom at the time. Worked well. Oh and drink lots of water too. Simple but does help.

If you are having iron, make sure its in a natural form, ie Floradix, won't bung you up.

Good luck, and thanks for the laugh! PS prune juice tastes better than it sounds.

I got a nasty anal fissure (a cut inside your butt- TMI!) as a result of 3 hours pushing during my last birth and it has been the most painful thing I've ever had to deal with (Still suffering on-going isuues 18 months down the track)
I swear by a natural fruitpaste laxative called Nulax (sounds similar to what you suggested millemama) which is in a green box and sold at the chemist section of the Warehouse (and probably usual chemists). I take a tsp before bed when I need it and it really helps. Someone on here suggested it to me when my fissure was at it's worst, and honestly it was the best thing I ever tried. But yes, lot's of fibre, water, cut out white flour products, DON'T strain, rocking backwards and forwards, Squatting all help.
The joys of pregnancy..............!

p.s Try to remember to keep the fibre etc up right after the birth and drink loads of water if your BFeeding as it can be quite dehydrating.

There seems to be alot of different opinions out there. My MW said to be careful of fruit because even though it was natural it was still alot of sugar and not to over do it. She also said to avoid bananas as they could lead to constapation. She advised if I was having fruit to eat the whole fruit so I got the fibre and not have juice.

Alot of nutritionists give the same advise with fruit now. But I just use modiration myself and alot of variety.

All Bran cereal and kiwicrush. Was the only thing that kept me going both pregnancies. With those had no issues and still eat the All Bran to this day. The yummy honey and almond one.
