Hi ladies, I wonder if anyone has experience with the Epi-No device? I asked my obstetrician about his attitude to episiotomies and he said that about 90% of women need some stitches after birth. 90%! that's quite high isn't it?

Anyway the Epi-No is pretty expensive and I want to know how many people out there recommend it. It's apparently far more effective than just perineal massage alone, but I got that from their website so that statement might be pretty biased!

Thanks :)

Used it with my first and my pelvic floor was tight. I still ended up having an episiotomy, my perineum just wasn't stretching. I've just reached 28 weeks with second pregnancy and will use it again and maybe also massage.   There's so many factors that influence things, such as position you are in for pushing phase of labour. Sorry, not sure if this is helpful for you deciding.

Hi Tracy, thanks for your comment. I haven't found that much info about the epi-no or perineal massage that comes from actual women who've tried it. I guess it's worth a go, but you're right there are other factors that influence your body that could help or hinder things. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!
