Topic: Belly Touching Posted: 29 November 2011 at 8:17pm |
How does everyone feel about it??
I'm only 14 weeks and met with a bunch of friends on Saturday for brunch and all but 1 decided they "HAD" to keep touching my belly... it makes me feel sooooo uncomfortable and I actually find it really rude! I bought it up tonight while chatting with one of the friends and she said "well I won't be able to help myself, i'm just warning you" I feel like telling her well then i'll just see you in 6 months!
How did/does everyone else deal with it??

If I was you I would just flat out say 'Please don't touch my stomach, it makes me uncomfortable' they will continue to do it unless you say something and you have every right to ask them not to.
I got it quite a bit from people and would grin and bear it most of the time, the only person who did it consistently was my MIL and I just put up with it because I didn't have the heart to tell her not to.
Or randomly touch their stomach throughout your conversation.. see how they like it lol

Hahaha I had actually considered just doing it back to whoever does it to me! Ur right though, i'll just come straight out and say it. Haha I take it you get on well with your MIL? if mine did she would be at the other end of the room in a few seconds... pregnant or not haha

Agree, best thing is to say exactly what MrsEmma said. It's hard to argue with that logic. With really good friends you could perhaps just also have them ask if it would be ok if they ever feel the urge.
Funny enough I always wanted people to touch my belly and no one ever did! I must give off a "stay away from me" vibe

At least they'd know what it was like - I can understand why people might want to touch.. but I would never actually come out and do it. And that's before I was ever pregnant and knew how much I actually hated it lol
I do get on pretty well with my MIL lol, it was still annoying but I just couldn't be bothered getting into it
Another thing right up there with people touching was people looking at my bump while they spoke to me (usually while talking about the baby, which of course was ALL the time). I found that pretty unnerving.. ahhh the weird and wonderful things we go through

Yeah, I would just say "DoooooOOOooon'TTTT, weirds me out" and then if they didn't listen, start slapping their hands away.

Funnily at that stage there is no baby where they are touching me....that is what frustrates the hell out of me!

AandCsmum that's exactly where i'm at! I have a bit of a bump, but not huge 30 week one!! It's one of my really close friends who I spoke to, she's actually a bit too intense when it comes to pregnancy and babies, the last time I made a silly mistake of telling her I was in labour, and because I didn't answer my phone when she rung (funny that when contractions were about 3 mins apart) she turned up at the hospital!! Needless to say i'm not telling a SOUL when it happens with this one... apart from my partner and parents so they can pick up H.
People are crazy....

OMG yeah I don't blame you for taking a step back, cool that she's so excited though.
Even with me now, if people tried to rub my tummy it's a fat roll baby is hiding lower than that.

I've only encountered a few belly touchers so far.
The worst was my friend the other day, but she's so excited as she's never been around a pregnant person before so I didn't have the heart to tell her to stop.
Although she did ask first, I just didn't think she would continue touching throughout the evening!

I don't mind people touching my belly- especially as it's only been friends and family so far, I might think differently if a stranger started doing it! I dunno, I just don't have a problem with it, people are so excited about this baby and I think it's lovely :) To me it's kind of like getting a hug from a friend, which we always do when we see each other.
But then I never had anyone touch my belly until it well and truly looked pregnant-probably around 20 weeks.
I would rather have the interest and excitement from people than no interest at all IYKWIM?

I didn't really mind when it was friends and family. As I felt like it was their way of showing affection towards bubs.

I never had this with my two boys. This time DH does it mostly which I don't mind. My Best Friend did it once recently which was a bit uncomfortable. Never said anything but if she makes a habit of it I definitely will.

I didn't have it last time but lots of the girls from work are touching me this time. I don't mind later but they are touching where it's more left over baby fat not my new baby bump, wish they would just wait a few more weeks.
I think they should still ask you esp if they know you are not comfortable with it.

i had the same thing happen- my closest friends i didnt mind, and if someone asked i was ok with it.. but other mere aquaintances- strangers in the shops etc even (ok yeah i was pretty huge, but did they HAVE to feel my belly up? ew!) if it bugs you that they keep doing it, every time that person rubs your belly, reach out and rub their belly, give really full on eye contact and give an awkward smile...itll weird them out right back! lol. then they will know that it actually feels really weird for random people to rub your belly! and if they say "oh but youre pregnant so its different" remind them that no, its not, its still your belly and still feels awkward and please dont do it!!

I think its one of those completely personal things and if you don't like it, say so. So far I really have not minded, I think its quite sweet. But then I am a more 'touchy feely' person anyway (always hug and kiss my friends and family for example) so that might be why. Have only had one stranger do it so far, which was a bit wierd! But to be honest, the joy on their face as they reached out to touch cancelled it out for me. I also am a bit of a bump toucher (with family and close friends) its like my hands get itchy and just HAVE to try and get close to the baby, hehe. I always ask first, but once permission is granted, thats it, I'll want to touch everytime I see them

Hi Ladies, it's complicated because you know they have the best of intentions. I don't mind, although I think because my belly got enormously huge quite quickly I probably scared people off so haven't experienced much random belly touching this time around! Like any other situation in life though, it's your body and if you feel uncomfortable, it's ok to say no!

Everyone I know who is UTD, doesn't like to be tummy touched, and gets groped all the time.
I love being tummy touched and no one does it!!
