Topic: Older Mums to be chat Posted: 25 June 2011 at 8:33am |
Hi ladies,
thought I would start up an older mums to be thread, as sounds like there is a few of us around at the moment, yay!
Abit about me, I just turned 41 last week (still only feel 25)!lol... DH is 41 as well. This is our first baby, we are so excited and feel so lucky to get here finally.
We had been TTC for nearly 3 years and had tried clomid, IUI and did 5 cycles of IVF, which didn't work. We had unexplained infertility! So we decided to have a break from things and started planning our overseas holiday which we had been putting off for the past two years then got such a shock when found out I was pregnant naturally!!
So looking forward to the whole journey!!

Congrats on your baby - you must be very excited!
I am also an 'older' mum, although like you I don't feel my age most of the time. I am currently 41, although will be 42 when baby is born.
Am also in Auckland so happy to catchup and chat if you want.

Hi ladies, yeah I still feel like I'm 30 but maybe a bit wiser. I'm PG with our 2nd, which was a bit of a surprise, took a few weeks or more to sink in, thought I would have a crack as the odds just seem to get worse each year, but wasn't really expecting it to happen quite so easily if at all really. So all good and I like the age gap between, will be just over 3yrs. I'm... gosh what am I??.. I'm 42 now, 43 in Oct, bubs is due on 22 Dec.
My mum was an older mum and she was the best so had no qualms waiting until I was ready.

Had my results back from my NT scan today. They were excellent for my age - 1 in 1100, so happy with that. Wasn't stressing about it, but still it niggles at you.
Starting to feel a little pregnant now, ADS has gone and tiredness is slowing down, energy returning, roll on 2nd trimester!

I am not sure if I quite qualify as an older mum. I will be 38 just after this one is born. I am due 17th of Feb.
I am having the 12 week NT scan mid august. I am a bit nervous about it but don't really believe it will be an issue. Will just be nice to see Sam (bubs name) for the first time. DH is 47 and our kids are all over. I never expected to suddenly decide 6 months ago to try one last time for a girl. I had never realised how much I still wanted a daughter.

Hi girls
I am 38 now but will be 39 when our first baby is born in Jan next year. We have been trying since August 09 and in that time I have had 3 miscarriags. I had started to wonder if I just wasn't mean't to be a Mum But here I am, pregnancy number 4 and all is going well so far! I am still very nervous that it could all get taken away from me....but trying hard to be positive and picture our baby in my arms.
Congrats to the other 'older' (but not that old!) Mum's - such an exciting time

I am 40 now and 9wks 4d pregnant with no 2. Our little boy is 4 1/2. I'm a little worried about the age thing, though like many of you feel much younger. I have my 13 week scan booked for 25 July. Hopefully I'll be able to relax after that.

I have spoken to many people about this and there are a lot more older mums out there these days too and the common consensus is that it has more to do with your health and wellbeing and less to do with your age. So don't let the worry get to you, put it out of your head as much as poss, hey we've beaten the odds this far haven't we!

Compared to most of the mums around where I live, I am definitely geriatric! I will be 37 when Baby2 arrives. Although advanced age is a risk factor for many pregnancy events/outcomes, I agree that what's more important is individual health. Personally, I'm counting on good genetics - there's many women in my family who were/are successfully popping out babies into their 40s.

*lurker* Congratulations happygal wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy and safe arrival of your precious bubba.
I had DD at 37, am now 38 and feel very normal having bubs at this age.

Hey all, Nice to meet some older moms here :) In the Nov group I think I'm the oldest and noone very close behind. Anyway, I'm Anna and I'm 38. Finallly got pregnant after lots of trying, so feel very lucky to be having this baby. I'm due in Nov and starting to get pretty excited.

Welcome everyone, how are all your energy levels, I have been so exhausted this time round, didn't really put it down to 'old age' as I was in such a good space healthwise before, but maybe with a toddler to run around after as well I have to admit it could be a little bit of the age thing, oh well, I'm getting past that stage now so feeling more energetic and taking natural iron regularly now. Original bloodtests didn't show any lack of iron, but I'm not really trusting those anymore, I'm sure they got it wrong!

Its Floradix, you can pick up at a pharmacy or health food shop, but the cheapest is the supermarket. Its in liquid form, not tablets and doesn't taste too bad with a bit of water, even my fussy 2yr old will drink it, and no worries with constipation, plus it has a lot of other goodies in it too, all natural. Your MW will prob know about it.
