Having crossed the 12 week marker of my first pregnancy I thought I'd share a few experiences with those new preggie ladies out there. Let's just say that the last two months hasn't quite been the the blissful nausea free trimester fondly recounted to me by my mum and big sis! If you are also in the 'feeling good camp' and you don't recognise anything below then count your lucky stars, you are blessed.

Bonuses - You are pregnant. Your breasts are growing but nowhere else is! Your immediate family will be thrilled by the news- should you decide to share.

Downsides - You may well want to vomit morning, noon and night. Cravings? Hardly, I am a true foodie, but still nothing in my pantry or fridge says "eat me." One cannot live on oranges alone. Sorry, you just have to force yourself.

Humour - There are some very funny names that are just lining up to be used when the name game starts - if you can keep a straight face when you tell your mum you were thinking of Humphrey Horatio.

Socialising - Don't be surprised if you can't manage to go out - at all. Please don't fill your diary or throw a party for a 100 people (it was pre-booked and I couldn't get out of it), you'll struggle, and the next day you will be doing really well if you can stand upright in the shower or dress without sitting breaks.

Work - I've cried in the car frequently on the way to work - it's normal, this nausea thing and constant waking in the night does make you feel like an alien. It is worth giving yourself 15 minutes, before you have to hit the deck running, to have a cup of tea and a sit down. Be brave or suck boiled sweets. The busy day can distract you.

Intimacy - My poor huband has the patience of a Saint. To be honest just making the kiss shape with my mouth is enough to make me want to vomit. Top-tip, make sure your partner reads articles in Week Five that explain quite how much help and support you may need in the first trimester. Do talk alot and forward your weekly update progress report to them.

Friends - Personally I opted for the less is more approach. One was a star, lending me books, sympathising, helping me along, the other was a little distant (understandably as she has been trying for her third for a while now). It depends how close you are to your family and who you trust. If you are normally very sociable and want to keep up appearances weekend afternoon teas are probably your best bet and involve the least amount of public food consumption.

Count your blessings - Okay so this trimester maybe the one of the most testing times of your entire life thus far, but, all being well, a new being will grace your lives very soon - bringing with it love and opportunities for growth that we could never have imagined. How exciting!

To conclude, there will be a time when you can go to the loo without fear of spotting once again!

Good luck everyone.

Hey Honeyluna, great read, should be a writer if not already, maybe start a blog up, thoroughly enjoyed it, could have read more. I was a cruiser 1st PG no issues hardly any symptoms, nauseating for other mothers to be around I'm sure, I practially glowed. This time round completely different, the alien comment really gelled, lol. Oh and there ain't no glowy thing happening either!!

Cute! So much of this I was nodding along thinking 'ahhh yes I remember that'!

As for the fear of spotting - I remember laughing in my due in thread that for the first 12 weeks you are a compulsive 'knicker checker' - fearing the tiniest spot, and then in the last few weeks you again become a 'knicker checker' - but hoping to see a bit of a show which means baby WILL come soon

Good luck with the rest of your preg

I would have agreed...until I had Mila,with C I threw up,then felt better,with Ty I felt nauseous but didn't throw up.
With Amelia...I felt nauseous, threw up (as in ran to the bathroom and sometimes made it before chucking up all over the walls) and then felt nauseous again,so no relief.

Well written, reading that took me right back to my first trimester with Quinn. It's amazing how much it fades even in a year!

I'll look forward to your take on the rest of pregnancy and those first few weeks with baby

Thanks for the encouragement ladies.

Maybe I should have included comments on the unexplained burping phenomena, desert mouth at midnight and the iron supplements that "don't make you constipated" - funnily enough I get the feeling have they haven't personally tried them!.

Oh the joys! Only three days to the scan. Can't wait!

Love the part about not being able to kiss your hubby without wanting to vomit. DH always kisses me quickly on the lips 3 times in a row which normally is fine but during weeks 6-16 by the time he got to the 3rd kiss I had to push him away and try not to dry retch in front of him! Haha..

All I can say about the iron supplements is Floradix, all natural from the supermarket, no pipe blockages there, and if all else fails, prune juice, not as heinous as it sounds. lol

I can't wait til you get to commenting on the cankles stage, so attractive, felt like I was looking down at my MIL's feet.

Im so glad someone finally wrote about the negative bits of being preggers. Im in my 3rd trimester now but the first was exactly as Honeyluna wrote! I felt like crap, only threw upa few times but was constantly nausious and was so tired looking back it all seems like a blur.
The main thing thats hit me hard, and sadly has come back this trimester, is an over the top rollercoaster of emotions! I didnt reilise being pregnant would play with my hormones quite so much as it has. Im one of those people who never cries at anything and yet at the mo i am bursting into tears at anything!
Anyway, my point was thank you for highlighting the fact that it is possible to be happy your pregnant and yet hate some facets of it, you wouldnt believe how judged Iv felt by some people even trying to talk about it!
Even though i know others must feel crappy evry now and again, i really appreciate hearing others talk about it
Thanks guys

I was like you BP, don't get too emotional but was cracking under the stress first trimester, had a few meltdowns from feeling like utter crap. And had to try not to moan too much as wasn't sure what people were really thinking, ie "oh no here she goes again!!" lol.

My one friend I thought I could talk to didn't want to know unless I was throwing up like she had. Just feeling like it, feeling like crap, so tired etc etc wasn't enough for her sympathy.
