Topic: Midwife in Rotorua Posted: 17 February 2012 at 11:20am |
Arrrr the two that have been recommended to me are both unavailable and now I don't know what to do.
Please post your recomendations if you had a great midwife but I would also really like to hear if you have had a bad experience so I know who to avoid!
Thanks in advance

Who were the 2 previously suggested? Im in Rotorua too. :D For my DS I had Helen Bakker she was amazing but has since moved so I'm a bit lost as to who to have this time round.
I've heard Nita and Dinnie (spelling sorry - dinny maybe) are great. :D

Haha, funny you should say that, those are the two!!!
Dinie works with another lady named Katinka who I have contacted and have a meet and greet with on Monday.

They must be good :D Glad you've found one though. Once I've had my dating scan I'll look into getting a midwife. Is this your first?

Yep, first after a looooong time trying! Apparently Katinka and Dinie work in job share so I should have some appointments with her too and whichever one is on call is who is at the birth.
When is your scan? I am having one on Monday.

Yes we are very pleased. My signature doesn't say when we are due, it just says that we have had four embryo transfers and this one was successful.
Our scan on Monday is our dating scan too but I think I am due around the 5th October. How about you?

Yes, tiny wee town that it is. Wouldn't surprise me if we knew each other already!
When you had your last baby did you have a coffee group? I've always wondered how Mums meet each other when preggy....is it ante natal class or something? I would be keen to meet up with some other preggy people.

Hey, my DH and I went to antenatal group and a coffee group formed from there. We don't catch up anymore but did for the year following our bubbas being born.
You could also join parent centre (who does antenatal classes) and they do a few good courses that are good to go to after bubs in born.
Also plunket run some good courses for mums too :)
Also on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the library the have rhyme and rumpus which is where they sing songs, read books and do crafty stuff. I took Harry there fron newborn - even tho he couldnt join in was a nice atmosphere.
I don't really have any other friends in Rotorua who have children but if you'd like to catch up for coffee sometime I'd love to (if thats not too forward). :D
Hope you're having a nice weekend and enjoying the sunshine
Helen :D

Hi Helen,
I would love to but would be keen to leave it until I am 12 weeks if that is ok. I am still really nervous that things may not work out.
I will PM you my details and maybe we could chat on facebook for a start if you are on it. If that is not too forward!! :)
Rachel

Just seen this thread - home last night with my 5-day-old.
My midwife is Juliette Robinson and she is awesome! She has 4 teen sons of her own but is very youthful and fun to be around. I ended up needing an elective c-section (found to be breech on Tuesday) and she was so supportive.
Another good one is Frances Kissling, she was my first choice but unavailable. She recomended Juliette to me. A friend had Frances and sings her praises.
Another two friends have had Graham Ryan, one ended up being very prem (30 weeks I think) and she couldn't fault him.
Good luck in your search and congratulations.
PS there's a midwife who was on the front of the Daily Post a few weeks ago for being responsible for a baby's death. Can't remember her name but I remember her inititals were PP, or at least her first name was.

Thanks kiwiking for your recommendations and congratulations!!
The one in the paper was pricilla punita. I won't be going near her i'm afraid.
I had an appointment with Katinka Heunder this morning, she job shares with Dinie Brady. She was lovely! So knowledgable and nice so I have made a tentative booking with them, all going well!
They have more space too Helen if you are still looking.

Congratulations on your twins! Bet that was a pleasant surprise.
There's a multiple births support group in Rotorua should you need any advice, support etc.
