Saturday morning we did the Dummy Fairy thing and put the dummies out in the post box and explained to her that she's a big girl now in undies so doesn't need her "Nummy" anymore. All was fine, she gave the bag a kiss and said "byebye" and we made a big deal over what a big girl she was and how proud we were etc.

She asked for her nummy a few hours later and I asked her if she remembered where they had gone and she said "outside...gone! byebye nummies"

Then at bedtime we had 2 hours of full on crying (but she only asked for her dummy once )
She woke once at 2am and after half an hour of crying I took her back to our bed.
We had the same problem with her afternoon nap yesterday and DH ended up driving for over an hour to get her to sleep (even though we knew she was tired as she was falling asleep in the car on the way home from swimming class).

Last night was better (probably because that mean dummy stealing mummy was out with Auntie Emma ) but she managed to get out of bed, over the safety rail thingy and get under the cot looking for a dummy (they used to fall down the side and she obvioulsy remembered me getting under the cot to get them) - all this was whilst she was in her sleeping bag!
I think we all got about 3 hours sleep last night as nothing we did was helping. I tried just sitting there cuddling her and she was using all her force to push me away (so heart breaking!)

I really don't want to go back on the dummy thing for 2 reasons. I don't want her to think we lied to her and just took them away to be mean and I also don't want to have put her through 2 nights of unconsoleable upset for nothing

I hate seeing her like this, it reminded me of when she was tiny and had colic it was that kind of never-ending crying

What do I do now?!?!?

I've found that any changes that Michaela gets upset over usually take about 3 days for her to settle into them and then it's clean sailing.

Good luck, I hope things improve for you soon.

No - mean aye!
Would rather not resort to bribery (for want of a better word). We didn't do anything with the TTing either, just lots of praise, kisses & cuddles.

Our dummy fairy returned a parcel to the mailbox for Hannah - it wasnt for bribery or whatever, more as a replacement for the dummy. She only had her dummy at bedtime, so Upsy Daisy took that place. Good luck, you've hopefully got over the worst of it now.

I was going to suggest what Aimeejoy had, not as bibery but as a kind jester.

Good luck, I am sure you will be able to work through it in the next couple of days.....here is hoping for more sleep tonight!

Good luck with it Toni, we are still having ours, if I mention that we are going to give it to the dummy fairy, she cries hard out and I can't stand it!

We decided to just let her continue to have them at home or in the car as its her comfort blanket type thing. We have been told she will grow out of it, but who knows when!!!

Ooh good luck Toni! Hang in there, it should get a bit easier with each night that passes.
I agree with Jo, my kids seem to run on the rule of 3 too. It took about that long for Ella to sleep through after we ditched her dummy.
I'm dreading getting rid of Benjy's. All of a sudden he is madly in love with them and wants them all the time, even though they've only been for sleeping for ages now

Oh I meant to say, with Ella we started using Mog for comfort in place of the dummy. When she'd cry for the dummy we'd snuggle her back down with Mog and use that as her cue for sleep.
It wasn't a bribe or anything, Mog had been around for ages and just happened to be in her bed on the night we started. The attachment has lasted though, she still sleeps with her

Big hugs Toni and Miss C, change is hard!

I agree tho, hang in there, the worst should be just about over and if you give in then you'll eventually end up back at square one again.

I must admit to having a wee giggle at her climbing under her bed to look for it, she's such a clever wee thing!

Yeah no suggestions here either but I hope you manage to stick with it without having to go through these bad nights too long.

I remember seeing the whole concept on Supernanny where they gave the dummies to the dummy fairy and in return they were given a small gift (much like the tooth fairy gives money for teeth).

Sounds like you did a great job! Stick with it though, those crying nights will not last long. Is she getting any new teeth do you think? Maybe that, coinciding with the no dummy is making her more clingy/more overtired/prone to crying? *shrug* hope she cheers up for you soon!

Oh Bribery is a parents best friend

Rhyley still got his and i am no where near taking it off him. Its not hurting anyone as he only has it for bed and in the car sometimes. So no magic cure here but now that you have started i would say stick to your guns they do eventually relieze they don't need it.

Oh hugs girl..not much help here Lycan gave the dummy up when he got his first tooth.

I say just stick with it now you have started no point giving in and confusing her....eventually she will understand she doesn't need it.

well it turns out that the big tanty was due to her wanting to sleep on the floor like they do at daycare

Ever since I took her change table down (over a year ago) I change her on a thin foam mattress that was for her travel cot.
She pulled this out from behind the wardrobe, laid down on that and said "nun night Mummy" she didn't ask for her dummy at all
We are back to bedtime routine of 20 minutes
