Hi,

I started training DS1 5 days ago and its going really well but a few questions.

 - How on earth did you get them to poo on the toilet, DS has been aware for months when he is going to go, as he announces it to the room then finds a quiet spot and goes, so this week he  has asked for a nappy, a couple of times when he has asked I have said shall I help you on the loo, he says yes sits, wees then gets off and a while later asks again and I let him cos its new, he goes, I change him back to undies, he poos once a day or once every other day. Not sure how I get him to make the leap, bribery so far not enough, he is SO private about poos as well, any tips?

 - When do you teach boys to stand up and pee, he is fab at going at home but gets freaked out when out and about that he might fall in, which can stop him going.

- He can hold on for hours - is this normal?

 - Peeing at daycare, he took 3 days to do wees for me, he'd let me take him but would not do anything, he only wanted DH, then DH went to work and after a fair few accidents I finally put him on the loo when he really needed to go, he went and after doing it once all good, but at daycare he goes with the ladies, sits happily but won't go, just like me, he holds on pretty much all morning, waits for his naptime nappy, he has about one accident a day there, when i drop off or pick up i sit him on the loo there and he goes quite happily, he's only there two days a week and getting wet hasn't upset him, just wonder do you think he'll just get past this?? I do not want to go back to nappies now he is doing so well.

Phew questions over

IMO whenever you like. I suppose that the only disadvantage to standing up is that not all toilets will be at the same height, so you may have some difficulty when out. But if you think he is ready to aim then go for it

I would say that it shows good bladder control.

I wouldn't go back to nappies, just hang in there. And daycare are used to accidents, helping with TT etc. If your son is a private person (as opposed to my son who would tell all his teachers he had been to the loo, sometimes without pulling his undies back up!) then maybe suggest to the teachers as daycare that maybe if they tried turning their backs/turning their heads he may have more of a feeling of privacy and go to the toilet.

Good luck!
