Hi guys, Has anyone gone for their 12 week NT scan and they couldn't find the nasal bone?

I was scanned today and they believe the baby is just over 11 weeks and they couldnt see the nasal bone. My NT measurement was good 14mm and my bloods were good but they couldn't find the nasal bridge bone which can be an indicator of downs. I am scheduled to go back in a week but am a bit nervous about the outcome.

Has anyone been in the same situation? Appreciate the advice

They couldn't find one on my little girl at 13 weeks, there was one at the 20 week scan and she was born perfectly normal, they didn't get me to do a rescan as at the time they just did it on the nuchal measurement and age (no bloods) and mine was fine.

Have you had the blood test? The risk is the combined results of the scan and the blood test.

hey guys - oops yes i mean 1.4mm.

they wouldn't combine my blood and NT measurement until they have the nasal bone (i.e. absent or present).

i am a kiwi living in sydney (this is my first baby), so not sure if the nasal bone is standard practice?

Mine coiuldn't be found at my nuchal scan, it sometimes cant be until after 13ish weeks. So given your baby was only measuring 11 weeks that may be why. I really wouldn't worry too much. Im sure that it will be found at your next scan

I agree with Imogen.. and considering your NT and blood results are good, I wouldn't think you have anything to worry about!

They couldnt find my boys one but only because of the way he was lying..he was lying face down in my uterus lol and wouldnt budge for the lady doing the scan.

The NT measurement for him was 1.7mm which is perfectly normal. We ended up with a 1 in 9100 chance for D/S which is great. Just for my age (which is only 20 haha) there is a 1 in 1000 and something chance so we got a good result :)

They couldn't confirm a nasal bone for my son either. Just couldn't get the right angle to see it. They never rescanned and no one seemed to be too concerned about it!

Thanks for all your comments guys - starting to feel a little less panicked. The baby was somersaulting like crazy and constantly moving which made it hard for the sonographer to get the right angle for the images.

Bring on next wed so I can get i done again!

Have a nice weekend everyone

Just to give you all an update...

Had my follow-up NT scan today and after 2.5 hours they finally found the nasal bone. My results were:

1.5mm NT measurement
Nasal bone present
Good bloods

My overall risk was 1 : 11,102. Interesting that the presence of nasal bone decreased my risk from 1 : 374 to the above. Massive difference!

Hope this is helpful to anyone who has an absent nasal bone at an early scan
