My wee darling(!) boy is doing my head in

Background - Jack has been in DC 1 day a week since 4.5mo, up to 2 dpw in Jan this year. He loves it there and I know he's taken care of etc but he NEVER sleeps there! The most they can get out of him is 30 mins, and they're basically praising the lord if he sleeps more than that. Quite happy when he's awake though.

It hasn't bothered me until now, as he would come home, have a nap then have tea and go to bed early. Perfect I thought! Now he comes home, won't nap, so we tried just giving him tea early (4.30ish) and putting him to bed at 6pm instead of 7pm. Sometimes works.

The MAIN issue though - is the following day (a Tuesday and a Friday) he is an absolute PITA! Won't nap, or catnaps all day, feeds at weird times, throws tantrums, hits, kicks etc if he's not allowed where he wants to go.

I would have thought by now (nearly a year on) it would have sorted itself? I can't not have him in DC as I have to go to work but it feels like I'm getting punished for the 2 days I do work by having to work many times harder the following days. I don't see this going down well when #2 arrives

Please some advice suggestions or something!

(Oh and yes we take his snuggly and bear for sleep times, he goes to sleep OK although laughs at the ladies there lol but just won't sleep long enough).

Can't help, only sympathise. Bella has always been a struggle to get to sleep at daycare and the girls there are happy with her getting only 30 mins if that ! She just loves it so much she doesn't want to 'miss out' on anything!

But then the days she isn't at daycare, she is usually stroppy because of lack of sleep. If I can't get her to take a day nap at home, all I can do is keep her distracted, or take her for a walk and hope she bombs out in the stroller

But yesterday she fell asleep on me at 5pm while I was reading her a story she was that exhausted. So, if you find an answer I'd love to know what it is!! I think we must be 'blessed' with overactive children!!

Aww that must have been cute though her falling asleep on you!

Oh dear - here I was hoping he would eventually grow out of it. I can see weekends will be a nightmare when I go working fulltime (or hopefully he'll just drop the sleep altogether then sleep all weekend )

It sounds to me as though he is tired - even though he is not sleeping enough. Often you get the reaction a day later. I'm not sure what you or the DC can do aboutit though. When my DD was in DC sometimes she had to be in the "special" room which is where there was a single cot so her sleeplessness didn't disrupt the other children and because it was boring she often went to sleep and slept longer.

Aw sucks as just starting this cycle! Great, I dropped bubs of this morning and said its bedtime (9am) I see she didn't get to bed until after 10am and only for 1/2 an hour all day! So one little bub who came home and went to bed for just over an hour, then bath, dinner and bed again - I am so going to hate going back to work won't really feel like I am being a mummy during the week. I have noticed too that DC knocks the routine around for the next few days. The joys of it all hehehe.

I'm lucky in that both of mine sleep well at daycare but they are quite bad the next day too. Mine are in full time so it is a bit different but I almost think its because they miss you and want attention and they know being naughty/stubborn is the best way to get attention. It might be hard for you to do but we spend each Sat at home doing family things. We have lots of cuddles and playing and they seem to deal with it all a bit better. Sorry if thats not much help

Jake enjoys DC he's in for one day a week but while he sleeps well there - about an hour and a half, hes so grumpy the next day!!!! I'm abit worried as he's starting another 2 mornings a week in 2 weeks. Its ok on his full day coz I pick him up at 5.30, take him home, feed him, shower him and put him to bed but what happens if hes a terror on the afternoons of the other 2 days?!

Hows Jake and Bella doing Emz & Shell?

Jack was doing well, we had a big talk at daycare about it and decided on more of a tough love approach to get him to sleep a bit longer. Anyway, he's had 2-3 weeks of 1 hour sleeps instead of 30 mins so that's great! Makes life a lot easier.

Although now he has chickenpox (we think) he won't be going for a week or two so I'm really hoping that won't upset it, but I think it will.

I hope you find that when Jake does his mornings he'll be fine. Probably will just come home and sleep in the afternoon which will give you some time out too
