Topic: How do you and your kids keep active? Posted: 05 February 2008 at 3:32pm |
What sort of things do you and your toddlers/preschoolers do to keep active? Any activities you particularly enjoy or can recommend?

Ella does pilates with me, its hilarious!
We also do a lot of singing and dancing around together. Its a great way to stop them niggling and whining and as well as a good way to get off my butt

Andrew did gym at one stage.
But we run around the back yard chasing each other.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Turning the music up loud and singing and dancing around the lounge.
Swimming is a biggy at the moment, with the hot weather!
I walk, she sits in the pram - that one is more for me! But often we'll walk to a park with a playground so that she can get out and have a play on the slides and swings and stuff.

We play chase a bit, Jake loves it. "mama, chase me!" I hold bubby under one arm like a plane (and hope I don't bash her head onthe door, lol) and we chase jake, they both love it, she screms in delight amd so does he. We also have discos (to my music) and dance and make up songs (Jake goes around saying Boom Chicka Meow Meow, you know as in Boon Chicka wow wow) We go to the park, but only if I have someone to help cos Jake is fond of cuttting loose and looking for the ducks... And Jake and Joey like to play wrestling/fistfighting, which burns up a bit of energy.. maybe its not playing? Oh well, its bloody funny. Sort of.

Swimming is a biggy here too at the moment and walking. ALize loves to watch his sisters scooter while he calls and points to them. He will walk up and climb into the pram to go for a walk.
Dancing is another one in our house too. Lesieli used to compete for rock n roll so her and mercedes are always making up dances moves for us all to try and Lesieli is also in the process of teaching Alize, he thinks the twist is hilarious!!
Chasing is another fun thing Alize loves for me to do. We have a big palm tree out the front and he loves me to chase him around it!

We walk everywhere! The poor car sits outside our house all week and doesn't get used.
We walk 15mins up to Nyah's school and the same back.
We walk down to Onehunga, go to Dressmart and wander around, go to the library, get fruit and vege.
Conor walks uphill to school.
They swim.
When I'm not pregnant or just had a baby I play either mixed or womans touch rugby.

We walk a lot. DH brings Michaela into town on the train every afternoon for handover and I take her home. The train station is about 5 minutes (adult pace, or 15 minutes at toddler pace) from our house but down a hill with several flights of stairs, she walks both ways.
DH takes her on long walks during the day, she and I dance together in the late afternoon. She runs around in the lounge after her bath every night. We play at the park as often as we can and we do Gymbaroo on Saturdays.
We did kiddiyoga for a while but I can't find my DVD at the mo.
