Hello
I am yet again trying to toilet train DD1 (she is 2 years 10 months)
It has become quite traumatic this morning - she sits on the potty or toilet happily enough but refuses (or can't) do anything. She is begging to have a nappy on but I am refusing so far.
Just really after nay advice as to how to approach this - i really don't want to make her upset over this, but also feel she is almost 3 and about time we had this nailed!

It sounds to me like she isn't quite ready yet. My DS1 is 3 1/2 and we are just starting to get it now. He paid no interest in wearing undies even though he could do both poos and wees on the toilet and all his friends were in undies. Don't worry about her age...they are all ready at different stages.
I would give it a rest for a while and try again later. My mum recommended trying for a few days or a week at the start of every month and you will soon see if she is ready or not.

Does she still have a day sleep? Or if not, when she first wakes up in the morning, take her nappy off & put her on the potty straight away. Of course this will probably only work if she hasn't already gone wees.
The other thing that seems to have worked for us, is to have a nappy on but every 2 hours put her on the potty for 5-10 mins & then take her off & put the nappy or undies back on.
She'll eventually go. Just be casual & relaxed about it. Put her on say go wee's & see what happens.

Thats tricky Fin was the same when he wasn't ready he would sit but I don't think he knew how to go.
To get him ready for a couple of months every single night before bath DH would sit him on the loo, for weeks and weeks nothing happened and then one night he did something, we made a mega fuss.
Then we told him that soon there would be no more nappies, kept telling him then told him they would go tomorrow and did it and he's be fine since, but when we tried taking them away before he had ever done anything on the loo it did not work.

we got one wee on the potty this afternoon 
Have been basically bribing her with biscuits each time she sits on it, and after a while just left the potty on the lounge floor and next thing i kinow when i am preparing dinner she comes to get me to show me a wee. Made a HUGE deal of it.
Hoping for more progress tomorrow, but i am going to chill out over it and will let it take its own course . . .

Woo hoo go Ona!!! Thats the start of it, once they have been once and know what happened and the fuss you make it all starts happening from there. For us the whole process took a while, mainly cos of pooping issues but we got there in the end, just didn't rush it - now only have nappies at night, I can't see he will ever be dry at night, he doesn't have a drink before bed but nappy is so wet by morning!!

I like what Nigel Latta said about TT. He said you have got to make them want to or else it's all from you. Use whatever treats work best like lollies or stickers and then if she gets enough stickers she gets a really awesome treat - like a doll she wants or trip with mummy/daddy. Make it really big! Just for the first one though, then once they have the hang of it scale them right back to something nice but cheap.
We did a sticker chart and he got a sticker and a lolly for each wee and 2 for a poo. After 10 stickers he got this handy Manny toy, then just matchbox cars for every 10 after that. Then just the lollies in the end and when we ran out i didn't replace them.
I took the nappies off except for sleeps and it took about 9 days and many accidents but then it all just clicked. Before then i was just about to give up but he just needed more time. I stayed really relaxed about it and just cleaned up the mess without a fuss. He had accidents when out in shops etc etc but i just cleaned it up and stuck to no nappies regardless. Take handtowels, wipes and spare clothes.
From there he straight away had very few accidents - when out and playing - and now has none.

we used the bare bum method (accidentally) had a few days at home and no pants at any stage were on. Immediately all pees went in the potty and after 1 accident all poos did.We also over rewarded wtih lollies and made a massive deal about it. Was relatively painless and only took a few days. It did however mean that she was knickerless for a few weeks!

I gave DD one M&M for a wee and two for a poo on the potty or in the toilet for a while. Worked like a charm for wee but poo was a bit more challenging.
Basically I just told her not long after her 2nd birthday that she was a big girl now and she was only going to wear nappies at night. Then told her if she did wees in the right place she would get a chocolate (M&M) and two for a poo. Then I let her run round with no pants on outside for a bit so she could have accidents where they wouldn't stress me out. Poos were a bit harder to get in the right place but I wrapped a few $2 shop presents and put them on the shelf in the toilet and told her she would get a present for doing a poo. I think I only had to give her 2 or 3 presents and she got the hang of it.
Like crafty1 said you have to make them want to do it. So figure out what makes her tick (for example my DD couldn't care less about stickers or sticker charts but loves chocolate!) and use it to your advantage
