Alex is 27 months, and my mother keeps hassling me about TT him. I don't know if he is ready or not. When we saw plunket, 3 months ago, she said he needs to be ready or he wont do it. So what are good signs that they are ready? Sometimes he points to his nappy if he is wet, but 90% of the time he doesn't.

I really don't know where to start with TT him. I have trainer pants, and have tried him in them a couple of times. He wets in them, and seemed to ignore it completely. We have a potty, and he has sat on it, but he doesn't realise what its for. (He thinks its a toy, and puts his blockes in it!!)

Any help greatly appreciated!!!!

typical signs they are ready are when they dont like have soiled nappies on, take their nappies off and can tell you when they are doing or have done poos or wees. i also think until they can take off their own pants they arent really ready either. My older boy wasnt ready till 3 - i dont think he was really ready then either - but my younger one showed signs much earlier.

It sounds to me like he isnt ready yet - you could try if you wanted but it may not go so well.

Thanks. Yeah I don't think he is ready. Will have to tell my mother to stop annoying me about it!! He isn't talking so can't tell me if he needs to go, or has gone. And he doesn't try to pull his pants or nappy off. I don't see any point in rushing him - and besides, I just bought him MORE cute nappies, would be a pity not to wear them!!

we decided at two that come hell or high water, Jake was ready to be toilet trained. it took us about 9 months to be successful. We were prepared for that and had decided we would take things slow but it was still really frustrating.

With Taine, he turned two and we put him opn the toilet before his bath, and thats about it. we are going to let him tell us rather than the other way around.

I tried to TT my daughter at about 2years, it was awful and stressful and even though she was making SOME of the recommended 'signs',she wasnt ready. ( not that i realised at the time)
After a urine infection and thrush she was terrified of going to the toilet so i went against ALL the rules and put a nappy back on her, i said at that point that when she is ready she will let me know.
About 6 months later she stopped wearing nappies and within 3 days didnt have any accidents.....well not with wee's anyway....poos was another story entirely!
She had a fear of poo's in the toilet and that took another year..thankfully it's only once a day.
I dont think it sounds like you or your son are ready, forget it for now.
And yes, it is annoying how everyone from aunty to stranger has unwanted advice.
