oo thanks for doing this Kell! Kryssi's only 6mos but I'll put her in anyway because she thinks she's 8mos  I've just started giving her weetbix in the morning (with hot water), for the rest of the day she has combo veges, e.g. for today she has pumpkin, carrot, brocoli and a bit of potato all mashed together, kinda sloppy, heaps of water in there. I usually try to get some meat whizzed up and mixed in too, since hearing about the recent thing on TV about babies being under-fed iron. And then she's feeding just before sleeps each time, and often in the nights as well, so that's about 6 feeds (1 side each) per 24 hours.-------------  |

for gods sake - have you learnt nothing - you dont give a 6 mth old weetibx for crying out loud... way too high in fibre and all sorts of other things suitable for adults or older children, not babies. No point in worrying about iron intake if you are over dosing them on salt or fibre.... ggrrrr

Jaxon loves his weetbix in the morning but since hes a bit older I add a little cows milk as well as ho water to it and put it in the microwave. Or I will give him the baby cereals and mashed banana and he loves a piece of toast wqith vegemite although he doesnt really eat it just sucks on it until it goes soggy. (yuck!!) For lunches Ive been giving him semolina and fruit or custards homemade) and yoghurts. Sometimes I will give him a tin of watties meaty dishes and then a sandwich and fruit. For dinner Jaxon gets what we had the night before but blended together. Although he is chewing on crackers, toast and cruskits he hates chunky MEALS. Im still trying every day to get him to eat his foods a bit coarser. Hes not a fan of his fluids... Finding it hard to get him to drink. He is being breast fed still but only mornings and night plus when he is sick I feed him at lunch as well so he gets more fluids. He loves those meal mates mixed vege crackers to munch on too. Just thought Id share that. hehe

Q: When can I start my 10 month old on 'grown up' cereal? When I eat my breakfast with her she is more interested in mine than her own. Is Weet-Bix suitable for her? A: At 10 months some adult cereals can be used but many are too high in fibre for babies. Some are also too high in sodium and sugar. Avoid any containing seeds, nuts or hard bits of dried fruit. Never give bran cereals to baby. While fibre is good for adults, too much given to a baby or toddler fills a small stomach and spoils appetite for other important foods needed. Too much fibre can cause tummy pain or diarrhoea. Baby cereals are low in fibre and have added iron. It is wise to continue with an iron-fortified baby cereal, but add variety and increase texture by including low-fibre or medium-fibre cereals such as cornflakes, ricies, rice bubbles or puffed wheat. And vary flavours with fresh or cooked fruit. Porridge made from oatmeal (or quick-cooking rolled oats) is a good choice from 10 months. (But if there is a family history of allergies to wheat or gluten delay introducing oats, wheat, rye and barley until after one year.) Though whole wheat biscuits like Weet-Bix seem soft when milk is added, they are high in fibre compared with ricies, cornflakes or puffed wheat. For babies under one year limit Weet-Bix to small servings two to three times a week.
Thought Id have a look.... Thought it might be helpful to anyone that was wondering.... I never knew about weetbix, I even mentioned it to my plunket lady and she never said anything... Well Jax has only had two servings this week so might just leave it at that. Hes having o probs so far...

ROFL..... I have foot in mouth disease as well Deb. But on this forum at least i get to think about stuff as i type then i read it and usually delete if it comes accross too harsh. Got the gist of your message though and thought it was pretty common knowledge not to give wheatbix to kids under 12 months.

The gremlins aren't quite 10 months yet, but they're pretty close They don't eat a lot tho...
Breakfast is a tin of 4mth apples/pears/apple+peach mixed with 6mth + Farex shared between them or 9 mth+ baby muesli made with formula then 1/2 piece of bread each with marg and marmite. Lunch is a ham/marmite/cheese/cucumber sandwich each plus a tin of yoghurt or custard. Dinner is about 250ml of home made vege baby mash, twice a week I add ice cubes of pureed liver, and then a tin of fruit and cereal or custard. They also have a couple of snacks, usually wine biscuits, rice crackers, mandarin segments, raisins, fruit sticks... Plus 4 bottles, I make up 150ml but they usually only drink about 90ml each feed, and I offer them water with meals. And re: the weetbix thing, we were advised by the dietician not to go there until at least 12mths coz of the fibre content. I know the Nutricia Advisory service recommend it from 9 (or 10?) months plus tho. ------------- Maya Grace (28/02/03)

I actually never knew about the weetbix thing. McKayla only started eating it this last month or so. Guess we learn as we go along right?
She use to get oats at that time in the mornings or slap pap (SA pure porridge for adults and kids and no dont go on the attack there is no high fibre in it) She then had milk at ten. Fruit or so for lunch. Then milk at 1 and then again at 3. Then mealtime it was veggies and not much meat. SHe usually had fish at proteien. And then milkfeeds about 3 during night. She had other snacks during the day. A bit here a bite there. I use to worry until I actually saw how much they are suppose to eat. Didnt worry any longer. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

GandT I didn't appreciate the way you said what you did. I have actually been advised to up Kryssi's fibre intake because she was quite constipated and IMO Weetbix is better than regular rounds of brown sugar She's only had 2 in the last week so I'll just keep that in mind.

Krystiana likes the Watties tins of chicken noodle & veg, and beef pumpkin and potato (that one smells yummy too!)... but the winer veg and beef is quite lumpy and she doesn't even like it mashed. ------------- |

LOL Busymum, the gremlins don't like winter beef and veges either, but they eat the chicken noodle and beef, pumpkin and potato. They won't eat lambs fry and bacon either even tho they eat home made lambs fry no problems. Funny babies. ------------- Maya Grace (28/02/03)
