My usual approach is to present myself on stage as the participant on whose behalf I am writing. If you were them, what would you think/feel? What your five senses are doing...vision, hearing, smell, taste, touch? What would you like to happen next? Perhaps, in contrast, what do you expect to happen next?

In general, what makes a hot sex scene to me is not the activity. It’s the context and setup. Specifically it’s about the emotional investment you have in the characters. If you have a guy just walking along and then shoving his dick in another faceless guy, what’s the point?
