Did you choose a MW or Ob, and why? My first two boys were born overseas where maternity care is always under an ob. I'm back in NZ now and expecting #3, but not really sure where to begin - and not ready to break the news to my RL friends by asking for their opinion ;)
I'm in Lower Hutt, if that colours your opinion either way..
TIA!

Hi kiwijs, congratulations! You will find that unless you have insurance OBs will cost you a pretty penny, MWs are fully funded by the Ministry of Health, and will refer you to an OB if there is any concerns that require you to see an OB (and this in turn will be covered by the Ministry).
I'm not sure if that will change your mind or not, but is something to keep in mind. I personally am going with a MW because in my case she only takes 2-3 women due a month, so I feel that my care is going to be well looked after by her.

Because I wasnt high risk I had the option of a mw or a free ob. With the OB I was told I would get a 5min check up every month. I went with a MW group and I had such a good experience. If I had any worries they would see me within hours, two lots of bleeding had them organising me hospital visits within minutes. They putme on the heartbeat monitor whenever I worried I wasnt feeling enough movement. I felt the MW were actually invested in me and my son and were very good with hubby being at all my visits with me. But having not seen a OB I cant comment on their care.

Thanks for the feedback.
The money isn't an issue really, I'm more worried about feeling comfortable with whoever it is.
I've had a recommendation for Catriona Pratt, just spoke with her and she seems very nice so will see how that goes.
Not sure whether I'll be considered high risk - my first was born 8 weeks prem but I've had a full term bub since then too with no issues.
It's very strange to feel like such a newbie again ;)
