I am almost 9 weeks pregnant and am taking the recommended dose of 0.8mg of folic acid and also the iodine. But a friend recommended taking an iron supplement to as I am sooooo exhausted and weak and can barely go have a shower. My question is can I take an iron supplement which also has 300 mcg of folic acid in it along with my normal folic acid.

Hi when I was very low in iron I started taking molasses a table spoon a day if you need extra iron your midwife will give you a script which I had at one stage and it took over from taking the folic acid tabs.

It should be ok, when I was in my first trimester I was concerned about my diet and lack of folic acid and my GP prescribed me the high dose 5MG!! tablets of folic acid just to be on the safe side. I only took them in the first trimester thou. I'm now on iron supplements in my third trimester as my iron was really low, it's messing with my guts big time! Yuck.

Yes, folic acid just comes out as urine if you're having too much, your body doesn't hold on to it which is why you need a daily dose or a good diet that includes plenty of it :)

It is recommended daily intake of folic acid for all women of childbearing age is at least 400 micrograms or 0.4 milligrams. I think before you take this nee to consult with your doctor regarding this
