Hi there, I'm currently expecting my first baby after IVF.
Yesterday I had the NT scan at 12 + 5 everything was perfect except they said bubs bowels are on the outside of his/her tummy (gastrochisis).
Just wondering if there was any out there that has experienced this?

Th baby was born naturally then taken to th New born unit for checking, all was absolutely fine. They wrapped exposed parts and th bub had an op a couple of days later and then they showed nub at home happy and healthy. All th best hope all goes well for you xx

Hi baby shrimp - congratutions on your pregnancy! My dd (now 14) had this condition, it was pick up on scan too. I was told it was more common in younger mums and more likely the baby was a boy. It was described to me as a clef palet of the tummy, in the process of joining up a few stitches got missed and wee bubs intestines are on the outside. I had a normal birth but yes they do wrap bub up in cling film and take them straight way. That is hard but best for bub. Our case was somewhat special so I won't scare you, dd is absolutely fine with just a few scares.
My best piece of advice is ensure your baby learns to suck - i.e. if they are tube fed for a while give them a dummy. If your planning to breast feed you might need to pump for a while.
It was nothing you have done and your wee bub is still perfect you just get a special story to tell later
If you have more questions feel free
Good luck and rest up
