I'm sure there are other topics started on this but I didn't know how to search the forum's. I've just come back from another wasted trip to my GP and just have to vent my extreme frustration. Midwife diagnosed me with this two weeks ago (week 22) but I've had symptoms since 16 weeks. They are getting more and more severe to the point were it now hurts to put my foot on the clutch and when I cough. The pain is so bad at times that I feel like I might pass out. This is our 2nd child (DD is 4yrs old) and although I had some symptoms with her... it was maybe 10% of what i'm experiencing now. Here are the things I've tried which haven't worked; Chiropractic Acupuncture Pelvic Belt (smiley belt)- actually made it worse Codeine Panadol - 2 x every 4 hours The only thing that really helps is getting off my feet. However with a 4 year old and a husband who does shift work the prospects of bed rest for the next 15 weeks are not really possible. I'm also experiencing mild depression from the pain and frustration of not being able to do anything. Does anyone else out there have any coping tips for this? Thanks |

Hi I haven't really got any suggestions except pain relief abs perhaps a referral to the ob & gyn. I had this with my second pregnancy andby 28 weeks couldn't walk more then 100m at a time. So I can sympathise. I did end up having him at 35weeks. I'm not llooking forward to having another as my last had shoulder dystocia and they basic tore my SP apart to get him out. 1 year late and I still have days were is painful to stand on one foot or even walk |

I have just been diagnosed with this, although have been having symptoms since 23 weeks. I have been seeing a physio who has given me a Serola Sacroiliac Belt belt which has helped. She noticed that the pain was worse on my right side and has linked it back to a bad left ankle injury a few years ago which has made the muscles in my right leg stronger/more dominant/tighter which in turns means they’re pulling on that side of my pelvis more. She is doing lots of massage on my right quad/hip flexor to loosen it up which has helped with the pain, and has also given me some stretches to do. I never had anything like this during my last pregnancy 2.5 years ago. I work 3 days a week and my symptoms are much less severe on the days I’m working and sitting at a desk, compared with the days that I’m at home looking after my (rather heavy!) 2 year old son and doing lots of lifting/bending/walking. I have shared care with a midwife and OB. Midwife was very dismissive when I mentioned the pain/symptoms to her a few weeks ago and said it was far too early to have SPD and it would get better on its own as the baby got bigger and moved higher up. My OB has been away but am seeing him for a check-up at the end of the week so will be interesting to see what his opinion is. Thanks for the replies - it's nice when you know you aren't alone, even though i wouldn't wish this on anyone! Rahab - Sorry to hear your ongoing issues... did you actually sustain an injury during childbirth? If so you might be covered under ACCs treatment injury? Could be worth checking out... Mrs Moth - it's very disconcerting to hear that your midwife was dismissive. Mine was slow to react, it took the 2nd appointment for her to get things into motion but when she did she sent through an urgent referral to hospital physio. Finally got to see them yesterday after having to wait almost 4 weeks. I now have THREE different tummy/pelvic supports. A big long tubey grip that goes from my bra to just under my bum, a wetsuit type thick black belt, and a thin belt for over top - which i think is the same as the one you referred to above. The physio i saw yesterday said that once the pain gets this severe you really need all three. And it's already made a noticeable difference. I think also the way it restricts your movements and forces you to take small steps is a good thing. I also have crutches which i've been told to use as much as possible for the next 5-10 days until the pain settles down. And then i might just need them occasionally - fingers crossed... what a pain they are! I've also been given strict instructions not to do any lifting/carrying or standing for long periods without support. I have a stool in the kitchen to perch on for doing dinner prep. I was also told that just a pillow between the knees is not enough, you have to have it all the way to your ankles so that everything is in line. So off to find a tri pillow today. I have to do 12 x 3 sets of pelvic floor and tummy tuck exercises a day. I didn't realize how crucial the pelvic floor muscle is for this until i saw the model of the bones and muscles yesterday. It's actually quite a large muscle that sits until the bones and is meant to provide alot of support. Now i'm feeling terrible for not having done my exercises sooner! I hope your OB offers more assistance for you than your midwife. Good luck for your appointment :-) |

| I did sustain uninjury but they acc wouldn't cover injury due to normal birth processes. It's Ok I have had 4 children haha |

I get SPD (and it started at 15 weeks this time, so you're not that early) and the only other thing I can think of is heat. I use a wheat bag when it gets painful and have found warm baths really help -------------    Jan '13

Hi, I'm glad I've found this forum :) Sorry to hear about everyone that has posted on here going through this. I have also been suffering from it as well. My MW and her back up MW were also dismissive of the pain it was causing me. I changed MW's and am hopefully getting things rolling. I'm 32 weeks and have been suffering with this for what seems like forever. Very disheartening. I've ordered a smiley belt (got delayed at couriers so hasn't arrived yet) but am hopeful it will help. Emma 122253 why do you think it hasn't worked for you. I see on their website they have 14 day money back on it if it hasn't worked. I hope you all get to have some rest. I don't work and my 5yo goes to school so I've been able to rest a lot luckily. I've found that being on my feet (shopping or doing little things like making the bed and luxing) makes things worse / causes an onset of pain. Do others find this too? |

| Emma 122253 I just reread your post. I can relate about feeling depressed with the pains. I feel like I'm missing out of normal life while I rest my days away until baby comes. Always here and happy to chat. |

i had it with DD in second tri till early third and honestly the only thing that fixed it for me was the physio appts! not sure if it righted itself or doing the exercises helped but i didnt have it for most of third trimester! smiley belt didnt help me either and i hated wearing it too! if i get it next time ill def do the exercises again and now we have a bath be trying heat good luck! edited to add my smiley belt was free, the physio loaned it to me for the duration of the pregnancy

I have been wearing mine for 4 days now and no improvements. It feels supportive but not fixing or helping with pains at all... I paid for mine directly through smiley belt website. |
