Hi! As i mentioned in another post,i am not yet pregnant, but am doing aa bit of research after my last eventful pregnancy! Is it possible to have a private obstetrician for pregnancy care and then be referred to the public hospital to have a caesar ( had an emergency caeser last time). If so, what kind of costs would this entail? Thanks in advance :)

I think it is possible in the larger cities to obtain your own private obstetrician and have them perform your caesar. It costs about $3000.00

Hi, I had an ob with my DD and a caesarean or VB was included in the cost of obstetric care as well as one of their midwives after the birth.
Shop around, my ob was $4,500 inAuckland but shop around and see what looks right for you

I had a private OB in Wellington and it cost $3,300 and they would do the CS. There are not many so you need to call up quickly

We're going with an OB, its our first bubs via IVF. We got pregnant on our first publically funded cycle so figured $3500 wasn't much to ask for peace of mind :) Oh thats in Taranaki, there's only a few here to choose from. If this pregnancy goes well we'll probably go for a midwife next time round, seeing as we will be forking out for the next cycle of IVF.
