I am so confused :( I have a son that is 2o months old, so with this pregnancy I was so hoping for a girl, I went for a 4d at 13 weeks and was told 60 percent sure a boy, then went at 17 weeks for a 4d scan and ultrasound tech said definitely a boy, although i did not see anything very convincing. So I made peace with having another boy, chose a name and started referring to my bump as him, then went to my gynea for my 20 week check up and I told him we were told we were having a boy, when doing the scan I asked him to double check for me, when he went down to the baby bits, I asked "so its a boy then?" my gynea replied "I wouldn't bet on that, I don't see anything down there" what does that mean? same happened with my son, was told a girl at 17 weeks by another doc, then saw my gynea at 20 weeks and he said "I wouldn't bet on that, as I can see the scrotum and penis"
I am so confused now, I don't know what sex my baby is....I dont know if my gynea is saying its a girl or not...

I'd not buy any boy stuff just in case.
Will you get another scan later if you under a specialist? Maybe wait til then. Boy bits are usually very obvious. Did you get a picture?

Why didn't you just ask at the time what they meant then?

my understanding is; it's fairly easy to say whether a baby is definitely going to be a boy, but it's much more difficult to say whether a baby is definitely a girl. Not seeing 'boy bits' doesn't necessarily mean it's a girl, as they might just not be visible at quite the right angle. I think that's what your ob was saying at the 20wk scan (assume you mean obstetrician not gynae?). Not that he thought it was a girl, but that he couldn't be certain it was a boy or girl. but yeah, why not just ask.
