I am going to find it difficult telling my boss, I work for a small company which has a relatively inflexible view to hours (8am-5.30pm) and my boss's attitude is different, to put it nicely. This is my 3rd year working for the company and I will be the first to be in this situation since I've been there.

Am also going to find it hard to keep a secret as the office always does Friday drinks and I'm always keen for a wine! Guess it'll be the old antibiotics line, don't think they'll accept that for another 7 weeks tho

Has anyone else had a difficult time telling their boss?

Can you leave before the drinks start??

I actually found it harder telling my boss after the 12 weeks as by then I was so used to keeping it a secret.

No i can't leave early, we finish at 5pm on Friday but drinks come out at 4.30pm. Will just have to tough it out i think! My immediate boss will be ok about it but the director.. Well that'll be interesting

I told people I was detoxing
You maybe surprised how your boss handles it, I was really scared about telling mine but I think she throught I was going to resign when I said I had to talk to her.
I think everything related to the whole pregnancy thing just take it one step at a time.
Hope everything goes well.

I told my boss early in the pregnancy so that someone at work knew about it. Especially if I had problems with fainting or something like that.

I'm kinda torn as to when to tell. I have quite a crucial role in handling correspondence relating to over 900 jobs so there is a lot of info I know that is unable to be passed on. I've also taken on a new responsibility which should be up and running by the time i'm in my 2nd trimester so would like to wait until then b4 I tell too

I told my boss at 6 week. Had no choice as it turned out, I was sick as a dog so it was either come clean and work from home, or have them think there was something seriously wrong with me and not let me work anyway!
Was terrified to do it but he was actually really nice about it and I felt much better that he knew afterwards.

I think most bosses appreciate knowing asap, even if theyre not totally stoked that they are loosing a worker (even if just temporarily). It gives them more time to organise things. My job also had a lot of info that wasnt really able to be passed on so I just made myself available to them by phone when needed once I went on maternity leave. They were still calling me 2+ years on asking about certain things

Thanks are you honeybuns then? I've been pretty scarce there lately

Back onto the work topic.. a colleagues wife had her baby on Monday, all the office is talking babies now. Awkward much!! It's good tho, I'm kinda sneaking questions in without anyone being suspicious

I'm 90% sure I'll wait till 10 weeks - work do on the Thursday of that week when it will definitely not go un-noticed that I'm off the wine
