Hi all
This is my first pregnancy and I have no idea where to start in terms of finding a midwife. Is there anyone that can recommend a midwife in porirua, Wellington?? I have read a few good things about sandy woodhouse but not sure?
Can anyone help?

I've gone to Sandy. Had 1 meeting with her and I just got such an amazing vibe from her, she seems v well trained. I have only heard good things about her. Book in quick though as she fills up fast.
Ok enough of the raving, you can ask for casual meetings with most midwives so that you can meet them 1st and not just go with the 1st one on the list.
There aren't enough midwives in Welly so don't leave it too long. Good luck hope you find someone that suits you.

Hey Kirsty, I too came over from England but luckily I have a really nice doctor who helped me out with things. I got a list of midwives from my docs receptionist. You may have to get in quick to try and get a midwife at late notice. My friend ended up with the Midwives at Keneperu hosital (like NHS midwives) she said they were a lovely bunch so don't panic if you can't find a particular one. So you need to pick a Lead maternity Carer (LMC) this can be either a midwife or GP. COnsulatations with this person are free (dependent on residency status) If you are new around the Porirua area you can PM me and we can meet for a hot chocolate if you like. I'm not hugely knowledgable about this yet as I ask my sister in law everything but if you want a good old English chat let me know.

I'm near to Porirua and birthed at Kenepuru - I went with Cherie at Birth Options and liked her, also liked Kirsty (her back-up) - can't speak for others there though (there are at least two other midwives).
Good luck with finding a midwife Kirsty.

I had Victoria Panteleeva at Birth Options. Found her awesome!
Can't remember if she covers Porirua. But Birth Options have great midwives anyway.
