Ok so with my last baby we didn't find out the gender and it was an amazing surprise to find out she was a beautiful little girl when she was born

I never wanted to have a surprise but am SO glad that I did! This time around however I am toying with the idea of finding out the gender but I'm worried that if I do i'll be really disappointed that I gave in and didn't wait till the end,

Anyone out there have a surprise the first time and find out the second time?? Need to hear opinions of people who have done both so I can make my mind up!!

Oh and saying finding out will make it easier to get ready doesn't apply because all my baby stuff is gender neutral anyway

We didn't find out with DS1 and I loved the surprise when he was born. I had initially imagined having a girl and wondered if there would have been some disappointment if I'd found out he was a boy at the scan (i.e. before there was a real life baby in my arms).

Despite that, we decided to find out at the scan with our second pregnancy. By then I knew how awesome little boys were, plus I wanted to make things for bubs and knew that I would have little to no chance once they were here. Anyway, number 2 was also a boy and I felt the same connection/delight at the scan as when we found out DS1's gender at birth.

2 others in my antenatal group have done the same thing and not regretted it (surprise no.1 and find out no.2)

First time round we did find out. Dp wanted a surprise and I didn't. We agreed if they could tell what gender baby was then we would find out and was it was they did and it was a girl. Dp had his heart set on a boy and took about a day to get used to that but next time he wants to find out and I want a surprise! Argh! I think it was nice knowing because I could think 'Oh my daughter, etc' but I think a surprise is as equally nice too... No advice but am pretty sure if you don't find out at 20 weeks you can possibly find out later? Especially if you need extra scans for any reason?

We kept it a suprise the first time, we are now expecting our second and have just found out we're having a little girl.

I dunno why we were keen to find out this time but we did and now i'm so excited bout the idea of a little girl:)

my first two were suprises but we found out this time as DH wanted to prepare if we were having another girl - which we are - i have found that i feel more bonded with this baby prior to birth knowing that she is another little girl so am glad i found out but i also loved the suprise of my first and my second although was a bit disappointed at birth with my second to be having another girl as i really wanted a boy

We found out the 1st 2 times (twins then singleton) but didn't with #4. She was our very last baby and we decided since I was having an elective we would leave the gender a surprise.
It is a huge surprise to hear DH say it's a girl after 3 boys (had a feeling, but wasn't worried either way)but it didn't lessen the surprise we felt when we were told at 18wks and 20wks that we were expecting boys (if that makes sense)just because we had waited.
I did feel weird not being able to call baby anything.....it was baby, bubba or it With our boys we used their names (except with #3 when people were around as we told people we didn't know the sex and any slip ups calling him "he" were easily passed off as habit due to the twins!)

We found out this time and had a surprise first time around. I really didn't want to find out for DS and we agreed, but this time DH was really keen on having a girl, so I didn't want to go through labour and then have him be disappointed if it was another boy! Turns out that it's a girl so that's a relief!

I like knowing we're having a girl and I don't regret finding out at all.

I kinda wish I found out for the third, I did like the whole idea of not knowing but it made it really hard to plan with clothing etc, but also I really wanted another boy & so was a little disappointed when I looked. I was the one who caught her so I was the one who got to tell.

So if your heart is set on one particular gender, I'd find out to give yourself time to get used to having the other gender.

DD1 was a surprise, I thought I would have a boy so I think it was a little harder to bond with her.

DD2 was also a surprise, it was very tempting to find out at the scans but I am glad we didn't. It was easier not to think of 'baby' as a boy or girl.
