Hi Im 20 weeks pregnant & work in the hospital/community.
They are encouraging pregnant women to get the flu vaccine, but Im hesitant. We went through a lot to get here today.
I feel like a hypocrite as I plan to vaccinate my baby, as have seen the effects of not doing so, but I feel differently about this.

Anyone else feeling the same or have had the vaccine?
Thanks

I'm an OT and the same as Kellz...vaccinate my son and have had the flu vaccine in the past but decided against it when I was pregnant...just didn't want to take the risk.

I had it in 2010 when I was 26-27 weeks with my DD. I mainly got it as I had terrible shortness of breath during my whole pregnancy (shaping up the same way this time) and didn't want a potential flu to compromise my lungs any more (though I'm not asthmatic or any other way lung compromised). I'm not particularly at risk, though several co-workers have school age children and bring things into work sometimes.

I don't normal get it but I did in 2010 when pg with my DD as there was the whole swine flu thing and pg women where dying from it I was over 20 weeks, this time I am not sure if I should or not both my gp and ob have said to get due to the flu effecting you breathing but as there is no bird/swine flu going around I am just not sure.

I work in a hospital too. I usually get the flu jab (free at work) and my DS is fully vaccinated. Last preg was peak Swine Flu drama, but I still didn't get the jab while preg. Had a good talk to the Occ Health people and talked to the govt info line, but no one could give me good evidence that the jab was definitely safe in preg. I decided to skip it, but got the jab when my DS was about a month old so he would get the protection thru BF-ing. Occ Health said they could come jab me in the Mat Ward after I gave birth if I wanted (eg if there was an outbreak nearby or a high risk situation), so I felt pretty covered.

I'll be skipping the jab this winter too. Good luck deciding, you can always talk to Occ Health etc for advice.

When I was at the GP last week (for asthma) he suggested I get it and let me read the info in the book they had been sent. It said this years strain of vaccine is totally safe and highly recommended for pregnant women but I'm still not 100% sure either. I had the flu when I was 5 weeks pregnant and it was horrible and really dont think I could handle it with a newborn and a three year old so guess I really need to decide soon!!

I am (or was actually!) a teacher and didn't get the flu vaccine last time i was pregnant. I had never really had the flu before, never really got sick (even being a teacher) so decided against it. I had never gotten it before either. Wont be getting it this time either. Although I do pay better attention to my vitamin intake when pregnant, especially vit c etc.

I had bad flu and so did my kids - they were 4 yrs and 8 months at the time. We were all really sick- I was by far the worst tho and ended up in hospital with complications - will definatly be getting the vaccine- free at work which is a bonus!

I got the flu vac as i have gestational diabeties and its the last thing i need is to get the flu big time and increased sugar levels. Have had the jab in the past and had no reaction. My dp also got the jab as i'm due in winter we didnt want him sick as well.
