Is anyone planning on taking music in to be played during their labour? I think this is a really good idea, bit of distraction perhaps...

Has anyone got any songs that they have put together that they wouldn't mind sharing to add to my list.

So far i have:

Landslide          Dixie Chicks or Stevie Nicks
Imagine                  John Lennon
Drive               Incubus
Pardon me          Incubus
Are you in          Incubus
Black               Pearl Jam
Angel               Sarah McLachlan
Rolling in the deep     Adele
Someone like you     Adele
The One                  Elton John
               Chris Cornell – ‘Songbook’ album
Billie Jean          Chris Cornell
Hallelujah          Jeff Buckley
               Coldplay ‘Parachutes’ album
               Jack Johnson
               Portishead

I had music planned but I could not listen to it. I needed to have silence!

I've made up a playlist on my iPod to take with me if I feel like it.

But it may not be what you had been planning:

Metallica, Pearl Jam, Queen, Serj Tankian, The Killers, a few Black Eyed Peas (Pump It, Boom Boom Pow), Muse and Florence and the Machine.

Midwife was pleased to hear it had no Dolly Parton - one of her recent babies was born to 9-5.

next time I will have a playlist as we are planning to have homebirth and our radio doesnt get great reception.

florence and the machine
magic by numbers
sleeping at last
christina Perri
coldplay

make sure you have a variety of beats and rhythms. I brought a CD of relaxing and inspiring songs but they had the wrong beat for what I needed- needed something much faster to keep up with my heart beat so in the end it annoyed me too much and I threw my ipod on the floor!

I listened to The happy song by Delirious about a hundred times while I was in labour, seemed to help.

I will be interested to hear what you will end up playing, after 'the event'. All our plans went straight out the window. I was on a mission, and everyone was in my way I seem to recall I'd have ended up throwing the stereo into the nearest birthing pool!

Thanks for the replies. I've got a good list now to add to the ipod. I'm just going to be having it playing as background noise. I quite like the idea of it being on shuffle and will try and remember to notice what is playing when baby comes out.
It will be kind of like his/her's life's theme song.
