Subject: scan at 22 weeks

I've booked my anatomy scan and didn't realise I'd be 22 weeks when having it done.

Is this a bit late? Someone said to me that if it's after 20/21 weeks it can be difficult to see all the bits they need.

My midwife is on leave until the week before my scan so was just after some advice.

Thanks!

We had to go back at 22 weeks because they couldn't see all of Sprocket's heart at 20 weeks.

Got a much better view and able to check off all fingers and toes and go through everything else again to be sure.

When's your scan? Just so I can be nosy at work ;-)

Not until Feb 15 - you'll probably be busy with your own baby by then!!

Hope so! Due Feb 12.

Still want to hear about your scan though - especially if you find out what you're having.

I went back at 24 weeks for a follow up scan. I'm sure it will be fine but maybe call them and ask?

I an almost 34 weeks and have growth scans every 2 weeks. I don't know who told you they can't see thngs later on. Everytime I have one, they recheck the kidneys, the bladder, the heart and stomach. I am sure 22 weeks will be fine.

Good luck.

It's not so much what they can see thats an issue. It's what if they find something wrong, the process after that becomes much more difficult after 20 weeks.. not trying to freak you or anything, its just my experience. We ended up needing a medical termination after finding massive problems at our 20w scan. The whole process becomes 10x harder after 20w than before 20w. They will be able to see everything they need at 22w

Kebakat, that was something that was partly on my mind as you were in our Due August 09 group and my concern to some degree with having a scan at 22 weeks is if there are massive problems, it starts to get quite late by 22 weeks. Hrm...

Rang the radiology place who say they do them at 22 weeks normally, not before.

Come over to Rotorua for the day and book in with Mokoia Radiology - they have been awesome throughout for me (unlike Lakes where the receptionist was so rude and quizzed me on my LMP before telling me I couldn't go a day before I hit 12 weeks - despite my GP telling me anytime between 11 and 13 would be fine).

Agree with kebakat: they'll be able to see everything at 22 weeks just fine but it's just in case they find anything wrong - which I'm sure they won't!

My MW recommended 22wks instead of 20 as you are more likely to get a clearer result, especially if you want to know the sex as well.
