Hi Ladies,

Does anyone know a good midwife in Ellerslie and around areas?

I have a list that my doctor gave me, but would love to hear personal experiences and suggestions.

Please help :)

Thanks

I spent an hour last friday and contacted about 20 midwives in the greenlane/ellerslie/epsom areas. Only 2 have phoned back. I'm yet to meet them. It seems very difficult to get one. Try Pregnancy Care Midwives - http://www.healthpoint.co.nz/default,107569.sm;jsessionid=7452BCBDDF5434B836EA30B7F43A4397
When are you due? I'm due late July with my first.

Hey Little T and Sarah #1! I am pregnant with my 2nd at the end of July as well! And live in Ellerslie :-) Small world.

I used Yvonne Daji and Hilary and Pregnancy Care Midwives for my first. Neither are for me, Yvonne has moved to Henderson, and Hilary is very to the point. Good if you want no nonsense though

I am in contact with Jo Mendoza who is in Abbotts Way and have emailed Epsom Midwives.

Who are the ones you have been in contact with?

Did you guys have any luck?

Sorry, was meant to reply a few days back, but my log in is playing up.

I spoke to Hillary and she's chocka block. She suggested I spoke to Amy & Gail from auckland midwifes. So Im seeing Gail next week (fingers crossed, as she has one of her ladies getting a C-section in the morning).

I only spoke to Hillary, but it sounded like lots of girls secure their Midwifes around now. So good time for you to ring up and do the same.

I was actually interested in getting in touch with Jo as well. Did you have any luck with her? Have you heard if she's any good?

I met Jo yesterday, she seems nice enough but I am going to meet with two others next week, just to see personality wise who I fit best with!

Jo would be great as she is the closest but I want some one I really get on with so will travel :-)

Was she not %100 for you? Anything in particular?

I may give her a call and see what she says.... Yes, would like to meet a few before making a desicion too! :)

Nothing in particular really, just didn't "click" straight away IYKWIM? She wasn't horrible or anything :-)

Let me know what Gail and Amy are like. I have emailed Amy I think but haven't heard back yet.

Will do.

Who else are you seeing?

I just got an appointment with Jocelyn from Epsom Midwifes. Fingers crossed I'll find a good midwife! Im sure all of them are good, but its like you say - 'clicking' or being comfortable with them is the main thing :)

Haha I am seeing Jocelyn too! Hopefully next week.

So I have seen Jo. Am seeing Jocelyn, am trying to make a time with Amy and also have an appointment with Caroline Muir. This is her website:

I've gone with Hilary Eason. Met her last week and I thought she was OK. I'm not worried about no nonsense, I think that's probably better for me. I'm not into anyone "airy fairy"

I have a scan booked in for Tuesday, as I had 2 periods in October (not uncommon for me), so not sure of the conception dates. I'm pretty certain myself that it will be the later date though.

I spoke to Jocelyn at Epsom Midwives week before last and she still had space in July (may have changed now though!!)

Hilary looked after me once my first was born. She is good, but a little TOO no nonsense for me. Each to their own :-) I don't like airy fairy either though!

I have my scan booked in for the week after next as I'm not entirely sure of dates either!

I have emailed Jocelyn. Will decide before Xmas who i go with (assuming all "sticks" :-))

Good to hear you locked in a midwife for yourself, Sarah_#1!

Im meeting Gail from Auckland Midwives this Wed, then Jocelyn next week.

I left lots of voice messages to others, but only one phone me back - Amy from Auckland Midwives and she's full. I thought I should have at least 3 to check out before making a desicion, but to be honest, I think I will be OK choosing between those 2!

Did Amy get back to you too, ScaredyKat?

My scan is booked for next Tue, cant wait! That will also give me an idea of the dates, as Im unsure.

Have you booked your antenatal classes, Sarah_#1?

I wanted to ask ScaredyKat - when is it better to do these classes with the due date end of July? There are classes in May and June. I was thinking June would be better, right? Or is it better to do them slightly earlier? I assume you would know seeing that you've had one already.... :)

Thank you :)

Yes Amy got back to me, said she is full. So I have seen Jo (and decided against her) and will decide between Jocelyn and Caroline I think.

In regards to antenatal classes, to be completely honest I don't think it really matters WHEN you do it. June would be fine. I am trying to think how far along I was. Only about 7 months I think.

They are all about the birth mostly, which in the end you don't have much say in it anyway

re antenatal classes, if you have an option do them a little earlier. The chairs at mine were super uncomfortable and the more pregnant you are, the worse that gets!!

Hi

I have Jo as my midwife, and have found her to be very friendly and easy going.  She'll be as detailed (or not) as you want her to be.  This is my 2nd, so my appointments are usually pretty quick, no fuss, but when I do have questions, she is happy to answer.  I have found her to be thorough, and provide all the details I need.

Cheers

Had my scan and all looking good so far! Crossed fingers it stays that way. Baby smaller so I think my dates were off. Showing as 7 weeks so now due 5 August 2012!

Met with Caroline yesterday. She is nice so unless Jocelyn is amazing, I think I will go with her.
