I know you are not ment to eat soft cheese that isn't fresh but i just wanted to check if anyone knows about home made cheese?
i have just been given a cheese making kit, which includes the things you need to make Feta, Halloumi, Cottage Cheese to name a few.
I have also just found out i'm pregnant (but haven't told family yet).
Can i eat any of these or not?

Hmmm I'm not too sure. Contact the people that manufacture the cheese making kit

I'd imagine you can. The danger with cheese as I understand it is mainly mould ripened and unpasteurized cheeses that are 'dangerous'. So it's the danger of food poisoning (which when you are pregnant you are slightly more susceptible to, and can have additional harmful effects on you and baby, which is also why the prohibition against deli meats and similar). So feta will generally be fine regardless (it's brine ripened), and cottage cheese, yogurt cheese and similar will also be fine. Since it's home made just make sure everything is clean and you pasteurize your milk at home before curdling and adding your culture.

Hmmm, I'd be wary if you have not made cheese before - need to keep things extra sterile. Frustrating I know! However your call... as someone suggested, perhaps ring the cheese making kit people and talk to your midwife as well.

I would wait till after baby is here to try it. Why take a risk. The danger is in non pasturised which home made would definitely be.
