We're just about ready to pop our 20 month old into a proper bed. But just wondering what sort of bed I should get. Is it worth spending the money and getting something really good quality (mattress wise I mean) or does it not matter that much until they're much bigger?

I would get something that will last them through. With Ella we got her a slat bed with a tundler underneath and a good mattress (I think its sleepyhead) and got it with the idea it mind it will last her for a while. With Tom however we are thinking of making him a car bed (you know how car crazy he is) so when he gets older will probably have to buy him another bed.

We got something decent for Daniels bed because we could afford to and also because we didn't wanna buy something that would only last a little while just to replace it which ends up more expensive in the long run. Because they are little anything you buy of quality will last many years

We got a king single with adjustable height. Figured we just wanted to buy one bed to last him right through as well. Also means there is lots of room for us both to snuggle together in the morning :)

We have a king single for DD to go into when she's ready, its important to have a good bed even at this age, its going to last them 10 years and they do a lot of growing in that time having a supportive bed is necessary IMO

We got a cheaper bed for DS1. Then even though DS2 is only little we needed a spare bed so he's got a single with trundler.
I've also spent more time lying on DS1's bed than I thought I would. It's also been a guest bed on the odd occasion too, with him in our room in the portacot.
So, yep a good bed even though they are little and if you also need it to be a guest bed consider a trundler option (if you're space limited like us).

Also I'd just like to add. Love this http://www.mumsknowbest.co.nz/bed_bumper?keyword=bed bumper - MumsKnowsBest - bed bumper

for DS we used an old bed we had as a spare. We thought about getting him a new mattress, but I decided that can wait until after he is TT!

We have our Kiara in a King single as that was our "old" brand new bed right before we moved and got given a queen.

She loves it and has been in it almost a week and has yet to fall off. (Shes 18mths old)

Kiara is 3 and Teagan is 2, now we're expecting our long awaited 3rd!
