I've made a baby hammock for my new baby due in Nov, along the lines of the nature's sway one. It hangs from the ceiling or doorframe, rather than a stand. I'm just wondering how safe it will be to use with my boisterous toddler around. We have had it hanging in the lounge and he loves to give it gigantic pushes and swings. Has anyone used one in this situation, & how did you stop your older child from being too rough with it?

Our son was 20 months when our youngest daughter was born. We don't have a hammock, but there is no way I'd leave Hailey in her rocker when Sebastian is around. He'd likely rock her so hard she'd fall out.

Can you shorten the chain it hangs from so he can't reach it ?

We are about to face the same situation, but i intend to use a stand this time, and if I need to, will put it inside a playpen or in our alcove office area (which is already baby-fenced). I just don't trust our toddler not to 'play' with the hammock. And also, cos we are due in nov, I thought the frame would be handy as I can move it outside if nice day

I've got one for #2 who is due in a few weeks. I am a bit worried about DD using it like a catapult or something, lol.

I've bought a baby monitor so I can shut the doors between the baby sleeping in the hammock and DD and I. I don't think it'll be safe for DD to be allowed near it if I'm not watching. That may change with time, but initially I'll certainly not be leaving them unsupervised.

I guess you could also hang it up beforehand and teach the toddler not to play with it?

I think I will hang our hammock over the portacot... will have to see how that works - we did that last time cause the dog kept walking under it, which sent it swinging ...

We are borrowing one from a friend. My DD is a little older than your (2.5 years) but I remember visiting friends when she was about your age and the hammock was out of her reach- they had a change table underneath it.

We didn't have any problems. Occasionally he gets an extra bounce from big brother but not too bad.
