I was given a list today of the midwives I should call for march....only thing is they are all booked up! I understand that the hospital ones you see someone different each time- for a first bubba is that a good idea?? any one else having issues

Depends on the hospital. Nelson does a 'know your own mw' scheme so you will see the same mw each time and have a back up, just like with independent mw's. Perhaps check with your local hosp.
A mixture of hospital mw's is better than none though!

I had a hospital midwife, she had two others on her team.
The only time I had one of her back-ups was for an appointment when my main midwife was on holiday.
Nearer the end of my pregnancy she started giving me the back-up numbers for when she was on her days off as she has her work phone off in case I had any questions.
She delivered my bub.

Yeah, depends whether you feel you need to be really close to your midwife or not. I used a Domino midwife from Auckland Hospital but because they are obviously overworked by 33 weeks when I went into early labour I had only actually seen 'my' midwife twice but had seen about 5 different back ups and ended up with a back-up for my labour who quite frankly was horrible. My gut feeling would be to keep ringing around because for your first you want your midwife to have a good idea of what you want - the back up's don't know you and may want to take you a different direction at a time you're compromised and can't advocate for yourself.

I did finally find one lady that was free but then failed to call me back when she said she would. Not sure if this is my impatience or her lack of time management.....i feel like the hospital may be better at this point.
Also how do you ladies get the tickers on your profile?

Oh Pinkie yes. When I was looking for Midwives they either didn't call back or were all on holiday too. See my reply to your other post.
I bet the one that didn't ring back was called Noreen?!

Pinkie07, just click on a ticker you like and it'll take you to the page where you can create one.
