Hi ladies, me again with another question!
What counts as 'bad' morning sickness? I'm just over 9 weeks, ms has been getting progressively worse for the past few weeks. At the moment I'm mildly nauseous all day, and I need to eat hourly (and can only handle a few types of food) or else start dry retching with hideous nausea. It's to the point where I need to eat before getting up to go to the toilet in the middle of the night or else I'll be retching for the next 20 minutes. I can't cook, or even open the fridge because of the food smells. Is this normal and do i need to take a cup of 'harden up' or should I be seeking help for this?
Thanks in advance, who knew ms could be so confusing!

MS is just horrid! Maybe talk to your midwife and see if she has any ideas that might help? You don't need "a cup of harden up", it's hard work being pregnant! Just think how healthy your bub must be, they say if you have MS that baby is nice and healthy

I hate to break it to you but that sounds pretty normal to me... I had all of those symptoms in my first trimester at some stage!
Good news is for a lot of pregnant women when you hit 13/14 weeks you feel SOOOO much better. Not too long to go!
Others will have more info but really bad ms that you should seek help for may be if you cant ANYTHING down and are dehydrated etc
Also if you are concerned ask your MW or ring Healthline...

Yep, that sounds normal to me. Don't know if that's the news you want or not!! But I guess you can rest assured that even though it feels miserable and its no fun, you and baby will be fine in the long run.

It is normal but you don't need a cup of harden up as you're pregnant and it can be hard. Talk to your midwife as she may be able to give some ideas to help. Ginger ale and flat lemonade can help to settle the stomach.

Thanks all, had a feeling most of it was normal and was just hoping for a miracle cure hehe! I was expecting some nausea, but the constant need to eat and sudden extreme nausea took me by surprise.
Will go hunt down some sea bands tomorrow & count down to 14 weeks - and yep I'll definitely be going with the theory that sickness = healthy bub
Have a great week all.

Agree with sea bands. And if you are struggling, there are some medications that can be perscribed by midwife/dr/lmc.
It sounds like what I had... yes I said HAD!!!!!!! It's still there a tiny bit, though very mild...
Mine started easing off at 14 weeks and I'm hoping another week and it'll be gone for good!!!!
Good luck!!!!!!

If it's so bad you can't handle it, talk to MW, as there are lots of things they can prescribe to help ease it and make it easier to deal with. There are lots of natural things that can help as well, just do a forum search as there are tons of threads that have been created over the past couple of years.
And just a note....sorry it's a bit of a negative, but some women don't manage to shake morning sickness at the beginning of the second trimester, so be prepared for that as well... I had bad MS from 6wks-16wks, had a 2 week break, and have had it back since then. It's bloody horrible...but perfectly 'normal' at the same time...
MS isn't considered 'bad' until you can't keep absolutely anything down, including water, and are vomiting multiple times a day.

Homeopathic has something called morning med relief. I was really bad at 7 weeks and needed something to get me through work. I now only uses it every second day or so and it keeps the edge off it. They also do a head one which is great for the headaches caused by extra blood volume and digest med which I have tried in the last few days because eating was becoming really hard.
I can't recomend these products enough.

I just munched on Gingernut biscuits - and learned to live feeling like I was going to be sick. The actual throwing up shocked me as I've pretty much only thrown up a couple of times in my whole life
Mine cleared at 16w, everyone is different, but do try different remedies cause there are different ones cause we're all different
All the best yours clears up nice & quick

What can you eat to help it?? I'm really struggling and it lasts ALL day! So far litebread and chips are the only things that have made me slightly better. What nutritious food to people recommend??

with me I found if I added salt to my diet (I usually don't use salt when cooking) I started feeling better. I realised this after looking at what all the foods I felt like eating had in common.
Each person is different and so is each pregnancy. It is often a matter of finding out what works for you.
Good luck.

What you (as in the original poster) described, sounds pretty normal, with my second my MS was like that (with my last it was hand over the mouth running to the bathroom to throw up)
There are ways you can relieve it though, even though its normal you don't HAVE to put up with it,your MW should have some ideas of ways you can lessen it

hopefully your MW has given you suggestions
as for healthy food to snack on ... well I don't know about that - all I know is the only thing that helped with MS was anything containing potato - and often just the potato
good luck!
eta: my MS got suddenly better at 12wks ... one day it was there and the next gone, it frighten the hell out of me but all was well with bubs

Sorry to hear about your MS - it sucks big time!
But the good news is that its a positive sign bubs is growing and healthy
Sounds exactly what I had and its hideous - I hate it and I hate that people (who have not been pregnant) are unsympathetic to it because it really is gross. Mine eased at about 16/18 weeks but I am still dry retching a few times a day but I have just adapted to it, as annoying as it is!
Try and rest up and think of the baby growing!

Help!!! I feel miserable! I have chucked twice today. Have only kept down 2 crumpets and bread. Feel like I'm a walking mess (well I can't even really walk, so a sitting mess). I've been crying off and on all day. Went to the supermarket and cried because I couldn't find anything I'd be able to eat. Nothing works. I think I've pee-ed once today. Feel like I want to chuck again. I am very thankful I'm pregnant but also wish this feeling would go away... Is it time to go to the dr or just put up with it?

I was chucking a couple of times a day with Mila, and nothing really relieved it,although eating as soon as I woke up helped a bit.
Have you tried ginger beer,a lady I knew swore by that.

MissMel sorry to hear you feel so yuck - my ms is still around but it comes and goes at random so I get a few hours here abs there feeling good.
Have you tried sucking gingernuts? Ive found vanilla wine biscuits good too, and not so crunchy so a bit easier to eat. If your ms continues for a couple more days being this awful, I think you should contact your mw, but (sadly) it sounds like a typical rough day of ms.
I hope it eases off soon for you!! It's no fun at all.

Nothing helped - tried ginger beer and gingernuts and vanilla wines- and I couldn't go to work today. I decided to go to the dr and have got two lots of anti nausea pills as well as vitamin B1, B6, higher dose of folic acid. I am hoping this will help as I just wasn't functioning at all. I don't have a midwife yet so couldn't seek help from one. Going to meet with one tomorrow though.

Sorry to hear that MissMel, I hope your meds do the trick! I'm off work today with ms myself, it's never fun.
Good luck meeting your MW tomorrow.

Yay, that's good news! Have you already booked with your MW or are you still interviewing? I know people say to go in with lots of questions but I used my first meeting with MW to just get to know her, see if we clicked.
