So we've been thinking about toilet training DD1. Quite a few of the signs are there but she still isn't dry for 2 or more hours during the day, should we be waiting for this to happen before attempting training?
She does drink heaps during the day though! I don't know about the bare bum method specifically but we did do a bare bum method of our own LOL. Amelie had been telling us of "poo"for a while but no mention of wees. By pure coincidence she had her nappy off at the start of one day and just kept taking herself off to the potty for wees. So we left it off from then on and she has just gone herself. Had one poo on the first day on the floor but otherwise all in the potty and no accidents out. She was just before her 2nd birthday when we started. So our bare bum method worked - I wonder what the äcutal"method is?? I guess you can only give it a whirl and see what happens? -------------

DD was telling us when she had to go toilet and what but we moved and she stopped.
Now days if I leave her nappy off she's pretty good, won't go near the potty but if I lay a towel down she'll toddle over, squat and pee... Figure it's a start.  ------------- http://lilypie.com">

What a bummer high9, regression sux. We have 'poo' mentioned here too and wees only after she's gone. She thinks its hilarious when she goes in the bath though and I'm pretty sure she tries to squeeze more out...so I guess that's an indication she knows there are muscles down there? Every 2 hours put her on the potty, might not get anything but when you do, make a huge song & dance about it, high 5's etc. Also the best one I've found to start with is as soon as she wakes from her sleep is to put her on the potty & sit her there & usually they go quite quickly.
Mind you I am TT a boy so that could be different. He also LOVES wearing undies, thinks it's really cool. It's a bit hit & miss but he unless he's busy he'll take himself to the potty. Pooh on the other hand is a bit more difficult. ------------- Kel http://lilypie.com">

I started TT DD at 18 months when she showed all the signs except for being dry for 2 hours during the day. I used a variation on the method you've linked in that she was bare bottomed all the time at home but when she was at daycare she was in pullups.
It worked well for a while - I started by putting her on the potty every 45 minutes or so but after a few days of writing down when she was going I figured out she could hold on for up to 3 hours in the morning but only an hour in the afternoons. I think she was more tired in the afternoons and less able to concentrate on holding on. However after 2 months she did regress, mainly due to some stuff that was going on in her life (starting overnights at her Dad's house) and lack of daycare backup (the baby room teachers weren't paying attention to her signals for the toilet and she couldn't get there herself as it was off the toddler room which is several doors away from the baby room). But, I tried again when she was 24 months old and she was trained within 2 weeks for wees although poos took about 6 weeks. So I think it was worthwhile starting when I did. We've just TT Clodagh and she showed signs of wanting to go in or near the potty for quite a few months first. We did the bare bottom method by default really...she didn't want to wear nappies but she also didn't want to go in the potty very often at first lol so we resorted to no pants and popping her on the potty every hour or so. She now goes all the time on her own and is now showing preference for the toilet. My bubs isn't old enough yet .. but my friends have always tried to time it around summer if they could so they are outside a lot and bare-bummed.
My brother used to incentivise his kids with a chocolate or lolly when they had done wee or poo. What ended up happening was they would try and try (even when they didn't need to go) jsut so they would get a chocolate. Good luck! |

Thanks for the tips everyone. Have decided to hold off as we're off for a longhaul trip in a couple of months which could backfire any TT sucess.
lol Vegemite, a friends daughter figured that trick out too.
