My husband and I are planning to drive from Auckland to Wellington and back for a holiday when I'll be about 6months pregnant. As this is my first I have no idea whether this is a dumb plan or not, and how uncomfortable I will be by then. I figure a few more toilet stops than usual will be needed! Anyone got any thoughts from their experiences?

I was about 34-36wks pg (at a guess) with Jack when we drove up to the bach for the first time which is about 3hrs away. It wasn't too bad although it was a bit uncomfortable, I had to keep trying to shift my sitting position. And I remember having to get DH to pull into a petrol station NOW cos Jack suddenly decided to bounce on my bladder.
Maybe you should consider doing the drive in 2 lots, maybe stopping over night in Taupo, or at least plan to stop for a stretch every couple of hours.

Enjoy the holiday

We went on 2 road trips when I was pregnant. One when I was about 3 months pregnant and was a 5 hour round trip and another maybe 10 hour round trip when I was about 7-8 months pregnant. Wasn't too bad. I did need to pee a fair bit but I never really had to pee constantly like some women seem to!

Good to know. Not really looking forward to baby bouncing on my bladder! Was wondering if we should just get flights, but are trying to save money and have a car when we get down there.

we did a 2000k round trip road trip of the south island when I was 6 m pg with #2 and #1 was 16 months old and not walking. Def doable, just factor in stops for the loo! I also drove by myself the home 1000k as my husband had to fly back urgently for work. It was totally fine. Enjoy it!

I did a 3.5 hour road trip when pregnant with #1. It was fine. I was 36 weeks pregnant and had my baby 2 weekends later. I find the trip fine. I didn't even need a toilet stop.

We did Hamilton - Wellington at a bit over six months, and it was nothing to stress about at all. In fact, I can't even remember much about the drive, which suggests it wasn't a biggie. I do remember struggling to get comfortable with a bump in a strange bed where we were staying - so that must have rated higher on the discomfort factor.

You will need to stop for toilet breaks though

I did, Pnth to Auckland at 37 weeks, broke it into 2 days, but that was more to do with DH finishing work on one of the days.

Take a small pillow to put between your bump & the seat belt.

lol I think everyone is different, I have had trouble sitting in the car even to get to work for the past month or so (so since about 7 months), peeing isn't a major issue, it's the sore back and hips and feeling like baby is about to explode through my ribs when I sit down that is the problem These men have no idea what we go through! lol
