Hi ladies,
Just wondering if many of you have travelled overseas when pregnant? We are heading to UK/Europe/USA/HK in about a month's time, I will be about 12 weeks by then. My doctor and midwife said its fine to travel then, I just need to get some travel stockings/socks for the plane and be careful what I eat.
Is it best to drink bottled water over there? I bought one of those bottle filters which I thought might be handy!
Any other tips girls?
Thanks

Hi, I did it without any problems. Main issue I had was that I felt sick alot from the tiredness but once that resolved, I was fine. Most of the water in Europe is fine to drink! Enjoy your trip!

I travelled to UK and Europe when I was 20 weeks. The water in Europe and the UK are fine to drink, in fact, a lot of the water fountains in Europe (mostly Italy) are safe to drink from.
I'd mostly be careful of the food, especially salads at the moment over there.
Take ginger tablets or anti nausea meds with you cos when you are tired you may feel sick. Or just MS nausea in general.
When you go through the airports ask what kind of detectors they have. Some may be more than just metal and possibly not safe to walk through. I was asked not to walk through the ones at Abu Dhabi Airport because they wernt just for metal detection (cant remember what type of machine it was now). Have a great time!
ETA bad spelling!

maybe ask your mw/Doc about low dose Aspirin for the long flights? Make sure you drink plenty of water and flex your legs and walk around often. Agree with trying to nab an aisle seat... what the heck is up with bladders?? LOL
we are in Phuket at the moment.... have been careful with the food I order and drinking lots of bottled water. The flight wasn't too bad but still knocked it out of me but I was 24 wks on the way over and have SPD so a bit more difficult than usual. Will be 27 wks on the way home and hoping its not to uncomfortable as baby is now pressing on my ribs!
My advice is to try and not make too many plans to race here and there- allow extra time for yourself as you will get more tired than usual and will need to eat and drink very regularly.
Have fun- sounds like an awesome trip!

I flew to the States 2 weeks ago, and will be coming home when Im 20w (with DD in tow)
Flight wasnt too bad, I havnt had MS, and only had broken sleep due to DD (trying to) sleeping on me.
I just drank a lot of water, got up as often as I could (def recommend the isle seat!)
GL for your trip!

I travelled to Europe when I was 21 weeks. All was fine - though drink lots of water to stay hydrated so definitely ask for an aisle seat, and have no shame about dropping the "p" word - people are great about trying to accommodate you if they know you're pregnant.
I'm also travelling to Australia at 34 weeks. Little bit more nervous about that one as I'll be so much more enormous and we just had friends who had their first baby six weeks early but we'll see how it goes.

Am gutted because most of the family will be diving. Still I love snorkling and the fish are really close to the beach.

Check your travel insurance carefully. Some dont cover pregnancy automatically as a pre-existing condition and you have to declare it. I used Southern Cross recently because they cover everything up until 20 weeks. After that you are limited on what they will cover.
