Hello ladies!

Just wondering if anyone else has had this while UTD?

I am currently 6w2d gone, saw the heartbeat yesterday (on dildocam, not belly ultrasound) and everything was all good then.

My midwife has me on antibiotics as I have GBS.

TMI alert: After I pee, when I wipe, my urine has a reddish tinge - there's no actual blood or tissue or anything - just a tinge. This has been happening for three days now, so started before the ultrasound. Sonographer couldn't see an area where there was a bleed or anything.

Just wondering if this could be related to the GBS, and not that something is going wrong with bubs...?

Any input would be very much appreciated!! :)

I don't think there are any specific symptoms for GBS but I might be wrong...I'm sure someone on here will correct me if that is the case.

I had GBS about 3yrs before I was pregnant. I was never tested for it during pregnancy but as a precaution I was treated as if I had it. From what I know of it, it is present in about 40% of women and you could be tested today and it's there and tested tomorrow and it's not. So GBS could return even if you do take antibiotics...
I was given IV antibiotics during labour (after my waters broke) to reduce the risks of the GBS being passed to baby during birth and causing problems. Even if I didn't have GBS the risks of major respiratory problems is high so having the IV antibiotics as a 'just in case' is totally worth it.

If the tinge you're talking about is related to urine, then it's more likely that it could be a urinary infection or something? Doubt it's the GBS or baby...

Usually they do a test around 34-38 weeks, can't remember when & then usually administer ab's via drip when you are in labour, cause as Mealz79 it can be treated & then come back even if you have ab's, when they do it via drip then it's not passed to bubs on delivery. I'm not heard of people finding out about it earlier. I wanted to be tested earlier with #2 as I had it with #1 & they didn't as there is no harm to bubs. Got my test at that 34-38 week time & didn't have it.

I got a UTI 2 weeks ago (I'm 18w now) and my MW put me onto amoxyicillin anitibiotics when the results came back detecting GBS in my urine.  I'd never heard of it before but she said that even if my results from the swab test at 35-37 weeks come back negative I'll be treated as if I still have GBS, with IV antibiotics during labour just in case.  Same with any future pregnancies.  My UTI cleared up in about 3-4 days after going on the ABs but by gosh it stung!  No red tinge in my urine though, but you could ask your MW if it's a symptom?

Thanks girls.

MW has just told me to keep an eye on it. After two miscarriages I'm just very nervous that this one will end badly too!

I tested positive for GBS when I was pregnant with my DS. I'm fairly certain that colonized GBS has no actual symptoms. Those in the know may correct me if I am wrong. In saying that, I thought I had a UTI, urine sample was sent away and results showed I was a GBS carrier (so to this day I fail to understand the no symptoms bit).

I missed out on my IV antibiotic with DS as I laboured far to fast and didn't make it to the birthing unit. (Even if I'd gotten there I didn't have enough time).

Do try not to read up on it "too much." I found the terrornet (internet) made the whole GBS diagnosis extremely scary, yet my midwife treated it as though it was "nothing much."

I tested positive for GBS at 28wks with my 2nd pregnancy. Didn't have it during the first one and no symptoms at all to speak of either. They did another swab at 34 weeks and no GBS. I was put on a course of oral antibiotics but IV abs aren't "standard" for my obstetrician so didn't need it during labour.

Interesting that so many people with UTIs have tested pos for GBS. I had two UTIs during my 2nd pregnancy. So annoying!

I don't recall any UTI's with #1 and had it, had multiple UTI's with #2 and didn't, but I don't know if they tested for GBS though, so I could have had it & then it went??

I had GBS in 1st preg and ended up having prem baby at 35 weeks as one of the side effects is prem rupture of membranes. I also had IV antibiotics in labour. I have just started being tested again now Ive hit 30weeks. So far so good!
No point worrying as stated earlier by someone else, you can have it 1 day then gone the next.

Problem with GBS is that it may or may not be present in the urine one week, but then may or may not be present in the urine the following week. Having a positive test for GBS at 30 weeks, doesn't necessarily mean that the GBS will be present at the time of labour, which is when the baby is at further risk. IV antibiotic is more of a precaution.

Very interesting read.
