My subject might not make any sense sorry!
Im wondering at what stage people either got their kids dropped to caregivers or got people to come over who were going to look after them while you were in labour?
(hmmm is that any clearer?)
We live an hour away from the hospital and my parents live 40 mins away from us, am trying to figure out when to get them to come out as i dont really want them here the whole time im in labour but dont want to be waiting at the last minute either. Just wondering what other people have done

I'm thinking of having a homebirth and keeping my toddler at home - just letting my partner take care of him as I definitely wouldn't want anyone else being here while I'm in labour. Guess it depends how fast your labour goes and how comfortable your wee girl is with staying at her grandparents. If she's happy there, you could drop her off early.

My plan is for my lovely best friend to come & pick up DS as soon as I feel I need all my energy to focus on the task at hand, then once we go to hospital she can bring him home again, hang out here & sleep over with him . She's happily agreed to ditch work any time of the day for her special duty!!

I know what you mean - my mum & MIL both said they'd drive up here right away, but I can't think of anything more hideous than being in labour with either of them around!!

we had planned to call my parents as soon as I knew I was in labour. If it was in the middle of the night, then my mum was going to come and stay overnight at our place.

BUT as it happened, the night before T arrived Ella decided she wanted to have a sleepver at Nana & Pops place......I went into labour that night and just gave my parents a call in the morning to tell them at T had arrived Worked out very well (he was 8 days overdue and I was conviened I was going to go into labour in the middle of the night, so the chances were high that he was going to come sooner rather than later).

Haha, yes, hideous is right for that concept!!

I'm thinking I'll let my friend know when I'm in labour so she can be ready to drop everything and come, and then wait until I think I need space from DD before telling her to come. She's about half an hour away, but I'm planning a home birth. I might get her to take DD out on the farm if I feel I don't want her right in my space.

I had DH ring mum as soon as we realised I was in labour so she knew that she would be needed at some stage. Then I realised the contractions were close (about 4mins apart) so I said to call her again to get her ass over here lol.

2nd time labours I heard are 1/2 the length of your 1st. That's true with me so that could be a good guide?

Thanks for all your replies guys, met with my MW yesterday who thought it was a bad idea to have to wait for my parents to come out and to look for another option. Wouldn't it be great if babys came on their due date? Would make organising everything so much easier

You also have to bear in mind if it's the middle of the night you might not be able to get through like I couldn't to my parents lol Took me a good 40 mins just to get hold of them!

But seeing my Mum was my birth support, we all went to their house, Dad put Alia to bed & he went back to bed & Mum & I talked/hung out while I was in labour.
