Hello all,
So we are looking at graduating Xavier from the capsule to a carseat and I have been looking at and lusting after the Radian...however my SIL has kindly offered for us to have their Safe n Sound Meridian.... So my question is do we go with the Radian as planned or go with the SS meridian? they both look good in terms of rear facing etc, the only thing is the SS is about 4 years old now and my in laws are offering to pay for the Radian anyways. BUT i mean we could totally use that $$ for something else if we dont need it for the carseat, im just a bit concerned about how old the SS is now, or does that not really matter? ------------- Ds1 - 20 months old Ds2 - 4 months old |

In terms of age, you should be okay, as I believe most car seats have a life span of ten years (providing they have not been in any accidents). There will be an expiry date on the seat, which you should look for. If it's going to expire in the next couple of years, I'd get a new car seat (simply because you want to get a few good years of use out of it!). If not, and you know it definitely hasn't been in any accidents, it's good to use.
I would personally go with the Radian (I saved up for ages to get one because I was a woman obsessed, so feel free to ignore me  ) as it has a higher rear-facing limit. If you're looking at extended rear facing (which I am an advocate of) and you have a large child, the Meridian's 12kg rear facing limit might be reached too quickly.
Also, make sure whichever you choose actually fits in your car! The Radian fits rear-facing in my car but takes up quite a bit of room, so if you have a smaller car you might not be able to fit passengers in the front seat! I've heard that the Meridian is a good seat too though! I just happen to love my pretty Radian.

I would go with the radian mostly due to the higher rearfacing weight limit.
merdian rf to 12kgs ff to 18kgs radian rf to 20kg ff to 36kgs. we got giving a meridian (before the radian even came into nz) and my daughter reached the weight rf at 19 months ------------- http://lilypie.com">

| Check and see what fits your car too before deciding. Some carseats are hard to fit into cars and the radian isn't exactly small. |

Radian does fit our car Stacey but he is thinking we can have Bubs in ss till he outgrows it ie next year some time and then buy the radian. X man is pretty tiny only 6.3kgs at nearly 6 months so rf up to 12 kGs should see him well into next year I'm thinking. I still get my radian and we still get a free carseat in the meantime;) ------------- Ds1 - 20 months old Ds2 - 4 months old |

Its getting there.. DH is going at the end of April, Lil and I will go 4-5ish months after that... so yeah, some progress finally!
YOu looking at having a #2 any time soon? Hows X? -------------

We went with the radian but it is big in that rear facing position. I have put ours in the middle of the back seat and that works well, it's especially good on rainy days as I can get in the car while getting Liv out and not have to bend over getting wet. I love that about the middle position too - it rains a LOT here! I'd go with using the free one for a while and then see how you feel when bub approaches the RF limit. I upgraded to a radian when DD was 6 months, but she'd actually still be able to rearface in her SnS now without any issues. Yeah, I would get the SnS with the intention of getting a Radian when he outgrows in length or weight...that way you could have him in a bigger carseat and keep your eyes peeled for when the Radian goes on special again. It doesn't happen very often... I'm assuming they're offering it for nothing?? If you have to pay for the SnS then I'd just go straight for the Radian.

Dh was all set to get sns and yip we were being given it for free but then we went to baby on the move on sat just to take another look at the radian and before I knew what was happening dh was putting a deposit down for the radian and asking me which colour I wanted!!!! So I'm going for the radian.... I know my dh and know that in a years time he ll ask me if we "reAlly " need the radian so I'm secretly pleased we re getting it now!! ;) ------------- Ds1 - 20 months old Ds2 - 4 months old |
