Hi,
This is my first pregnancy and have had a recommdation from a friend inregards to using the TENS machine during labour. I have read up about it and does sound effective. But I would like to hear from Mums who have used this product and what they thought of it for pain relieve, good or bad is fine! I would like other opinions before I pay money to hire one.
Thanks! :-)

The physio dept at our local hospital had a machine that they lent out for free to women in labour. Maybe there's a hosp up there that'll do the same?
The only problem is that you have to pick it up once you're in labour. Hubby went to pick it up but before he got there another women grabbed it, annoying thing is that this woman was someone in our antenatal class that I told about the TENS machine. I should've kept my mouth shut.
Good luck!

hi i had one as my mums a midwife but for me my first contraction was super painful and they were intense from then on till the birth, and i already felt too uncomfortable, so id say that it could be really effective as i could definitly feel something, but if you used it right from the start before the contractions got too painful would be a lot more effective, that's probably not much help though sorry!

I hired mine from the chemist and it wasn't too much so that was good. It didn't seem to do much for me, but I might have started using it a bit late too. But a great distraction for a bit at least.
One of my good friends used it and thought it was fantastic and it was the only pain relief she used. I'm still going to give it another go this time just in case.

I haven't personally used one for birth (though I'm hoping to) but my Osteo does put one on my back after treatment and it really helps the pain to ease - sort of numbs the area.
I don't know if it's just me though, but until you get used to the sensation, it feels like a cow is licking you haha.
Also, if you have it put on the wrong place, it can twinge the nerves and thats a bit painful, don't know if thats just my back being weird though!

Thats great ladies thanks heaps for your feedback! keep them coming if anyone has used or know of someone who thought the TENS was bad or good.
Ill go test one at the pharmacy first to check if I will like the sensation and if so I think I will hire one, theres a company in CHCH which hire them roughly for $70 and $100 bond and free courier there and back too which will mean I wont miss out!
I am due roughly in 2 1/2 weeks so if I get the machine in time and use it ill defintely post it for anyone else who may be interested!
Thanks again everyone!

I hired one through a website, can't remember which one. I don't know how much it helped painwise but it gave me something to do when I had contractions, so at the very least it distracted me a bit and I will use one again for my next birth.
They don't cost much to hire so I reckon there's no harm in trying it.
