Hi Ladies,
After recently suffering my second miscarriage, I have been to see not one, but two private specialists. Both have said there is nothing wrong with me and that everything looks fine. (Having 2 miscarriages however is anything but 'fine') I have done alot of reading on recurrent miscarriages in the last few months, maybe I always had a fear it would happen again. I've read so many positive things about Asprin/Progesterone and many other things. However, both specialists just said "Take asprin if you like, it won't harm but might help" and neither believe in progesterone at all. What have you ladies who've been through this misfortune done ? Anyone else on asprin ? If so, at what stage in your pregnancy did you stop ? What are your thoughts on Progesterone ? (and testing for it?) Df and I are getting chromosomal match blood tests done next week. Is there anything else anyone can recommend ? I'm excited and nervous about trying again and I really want it to be third time lucky for me! I used progesterone cream for about 6 months when I came off the pill. I have PCOS and wanted to improve my chances of getting pregnant. I don't know if it worked but I did manage to get pregnant in Dec last year...funnily enough it was the same month I stopped using the cream and decided to go and see a gynaecologist 
I used Patient Advocates in Tauranga - they do phone consultations. I can only comment on the Progesterone side of things, but we were ttc for 23 months with no BFP's (possibly a few miscarriages as I had a few shocking AF's during that time, but they would have been very early). My FA specialist was not a huge believer in progesterone support and my levels appeared very good on blood tests, however he said its worth a shot and what do you know first month using progesterone I got a BFP. I continued to use it up till 8 weeks pregnant.
Not sure if it was the progesterone support or not that helped this one stick, BUT it can't hurt you to give it a go, just huts your pocket as its a little costly  ------------- http://lilypie.com">  http://lilypie.com">

Firstly, big hugs...  - life can be so unfair sometimes.
I had a MC at 13 weeks, and after doing some research started taking low-dose asprin from TTC until about 17 weeks with DS. I really believe it made a difference as I didn't have any of the spotting issues I had with my first pregnancy. As you said, it does no harm, so why not. I will be taking it again when we TTC number 2. Best of luck for a sticky bubba next time. -------------

I hope that you get your bfp really soon hun! I had a missed mc before ds, and didnt go on asprin then but am on asprin now, I was prescrbied it by my ob as I had hypertension during my last pregnancy, so its perfectly safe to take during pregnancy.
I also has acupuncture with vitalis who specialises in womans fertility, hes based in Mairangi bay and I had great results with him when I was ttc with ds, I have pcos and my cycles went from 47-50 days to 35 days and a bfp! It sounds like both are definitely worth a try given my situation. Amybaby - I had spotting with both of mine around 8 weeks and shortly after was when things went wrong, so sounds like it may help. My concern is that if I stop taking it, then I'll cause the baby harm ? I know it helps blood get through the placenta so I think I'd be scared about coming off it Obviously that wasn't the case with you and my mind over thinks these things!

I only started taking it the other day, the ob wrote the script out two weeks ago, but its taken me that long to get my head around taking it I think you can safely take it up till around 30plus weeks then I think you have to stop taking it? dont quote me on that though, I posted a thread on here only a week or so ago about asprin and hypertension, have a look some other ladies on here have taken asprin during pregnancy.

| I am in the same boat (2x miscarriages in 8 months)and have been told that the doctors don't investigate until you have 3 as they are not considered recurrent. So I have decided to self medicate with low dose asprin. But have not heard about the progesterone treatment spoken of? |

PB I used baby asprin for the first 13 weeks I think after MCing at about 7 weeks, I had been told that it wont hurt, and I felt like anything was worth a try so gave it ago, I did have spotting at about the same time with DD but apparently part of my cervix closed on the outside that was ment to be on the inside causing it...
I think so long as you stop by about 36 weeks then its ok (cos you dont want unclotting blood when you give birth!) GL hun, and I hope it is 3rd time lucky for you -------------

He said if it was a tried and tested formula for preventing miscarriages then they would tell every woman to take it! Which I guess is fair enough. So I thought I'd give it a go and I'm taking it now while TTC and will continue to take it throughout pregnancy. Good luck xx |

Hi PB, not sure if this helps or not - I can't comment on either treatment but I did have 2 mc's before I had my daughter. I was extremely paranoid going into my 3rd pregnancy and my doctor basically told me that if the worst was going to happen, then there was nothing I could do...I had minor bleeds on and off until 16 weeks but ended up carrying my little girl almost to term (delivered at 36-ish weeks due to pre-eclampsia).
Like I say, not sure if that helps at all, but just thought I would let you know that even though you have had 2 mc's - there is still hope for a healthy 3rd pregnancy unassisted. Totally understand where you're coming from though - I really wanted to do everything that I could to make sure everything was ok, but was never really given the opportunity, so ended up just having to wait it out... Hi - just thought I would share my experience with you - after two MC as soon as I fell PG the third time I went to my normal GP and begged her to give me Progesterone Pills and aspirin. She phoned a fertility specialist just to double check that this was ok and he basically told her to give me what I wanted as it wouldn't do any harm, they both seemed to agree that giving me what I wanted would at the very least make me feel better and calm me down.
This one has stuck and I am due soon. So I would say take the aspirin and maybe ask again about about Progesterone - if not the cream then maybe just the pills. |

I had 3 mc's within a year and went to see FS and like the others he said I could take it but there was no evidence proving it worked. I took Progesterone tablets up to 13 weeks and am taking aspirin up to 35 weeks. I really think it did something and will definitely do it again with #2. I'm nearly 30 weeks and still can't believe I've got this far. No bleeding or problems and baby is even measuring ahead! The thing with progesterone is that it ups the levels in your body to sustain a pregnancy and my body may not have been doing a good job at that. When you hit the 12 week mark your placenta takes over, instead of your body doing all the work (hence the morning sickness) and your body can then produce enough Progesterone to sustain the pregnancy. I was worried about what would happen when I stopped taking it but got advice and FS said to gradually stop it over a week at 13 weeks. Sorry for your losses, but (and I know that people hate hearing this and the FS actually said it to me) at least you can get pregnant so you do have a good chance :) My motto was to never give up and I'm so excited to be having this baby now (still can't really believe it though!) Oh and I also visited my GP a few months ago and she said her friend was having the same problems and took prog and had a healthy bubba so there must be something right with it :) Good Luck!! ------------- http://lilypie.com">

I had 3 m/c within an 18 month period, and a 4th m/c years earlier, and underwent testing with a gynae. My testing didn't show anything, but I started on baby aspirin (at her suggestion) and then when I got my BFP I also had my progesterone levels tested and they were considered too low to sustain a viable pregnancy, which would explain why I always had early m/c (around the 6-8 week mark). So I started progesterone pessaries the day I got my BFP which I continued up until 10-12w from memory....and now I have my two beautiful girls So they were a good thing for me.

I'm so sorry for your losses. Two MCs is hard to cope with! I had two last year, saw a specialist who diagnosed us with "bad luck". Funnily enough it made me feel better.
I'm now 19 weeks preg with #3, and have been taking Cartia (low dose aspirin) since we started ttc again. I'm supposed to take it to week 36, then stop. I don't know if that was what did the trick but it can't do any harm. I also stopped working (due to an unplanned but well timed redundancy) so I pretty much just chilled out for the first trimester. hi ya,
thought i'd share my story also, i had two miscarriages (probably more) before i concieved my lovely girl, i fell pregnant again and was so scared i would miscarry again so went and saw a high risk pregnancy specialist who put me on aspirin and progesterone pessaries. i'm convinced its the reason i have my baby, i took the aspirin up to 34 weeks as i had a feeling i might have a section so stopped taking it just incase. They recommend taking it up to 36 weeks. if you go and see dr vijay bhoola at shore womans he will give you the progesterone if you want it, he is just lovely and if i had my pregnancy again i would have had him as my specialist the whole way through, a shame i didnt in the end! BTW i also had endometriosis so had problems concieving due to this also, and i had normal levels of progesterone only after starting tot ake the pessaries so i think it definately worked for me and like they say there is no harm taking these during pregnancy so why not. take care and wishing you all the best ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Marengo - I've heard great things about Vijay before! I used Denise Johnson as my midwife for the short duration of my pregnancies and found her to be amazing, she only does shared care with Ammar Al Abid, who I met and thought was great, so will go with him for continuity. Sounds like I need to demand progesterone pessaries, which I certainly will! I have a corpus luteum cyst (3cm x 2.5cm) left over from when I miscarried, and I was reading that one shouldn't take asprin when they have one as it can cause bleeding. It should go away on it's own but as AF has just made an appearance today I don't have long to decide wether to try this cycle or not. I wonder if anyone reading this knows anything about that type of cysts ? The specialists said they are nothing to worry about and won't affect my next pregnancy, but Dr Google has me scared

| You can buy Dispirin and take a quarter a day. Otherwise look for brands like Cartia which is the low dose aspirin. I often buy the Signature Range Aspirin from the supermarket because it's cheaper, just make sure it's 100mg or less. |

I had a number of corpus luteum cysts also, biggest one was 5cmx4cm I was told that they are nothing to worry about - they are a naturally occurring cyst which can happen, and have something to do with ovulation?? But that they are *usually* absorbed/expelled when you have your AF. I had a couple when I got pg, and still took my aspirin and progesterone. Oh - I was also on 5mg folic acid (the usual is 800mcg, so over 6 times the strength) which I got on prescription - same with the aspirin, I think it was 75mg that I was on??

My naturopath said I should take aspirin or a herbal mix and I decided to opt for the herbal mix and holy moly it is disgusting.
