I am 34 weeks pregnant and found out my baby is in breech position and want to get it moving in the right direction. Read some interesting stuff online about moxibustion (moxa sticks) and keen to give it a try. Just wondering if anyone has had some success with this and is it easy enough to do it yourself at home? And if so where can you purchase moxa sticks in the Auckland area or can you only get from an acupuncture clinic?

I used these to turn DD at 37 weeks.
I got them from the hospital, i got them off the acupuncturist.
DP did them at night we both sat down to relax. I think you do them for 10 minutes on each little toe, this was two years ago so i cant quite remember the length of time.
I had it done for 10 minutes each toe, was just about to start on the 1st toe again when i felt DD turn. Was very obvious she was turning. Was quite painful & very uncomfortable and i could see her moving in my belly.
Sure enough my scan & midwife the next day confirmed i had an engaged baby.
I recommend them 100%. I think you can buy them online but unsure of costs. Id ask your midwife because i got referred and mine were free.

My midwife gave us some to try which we did but with no luck.
Don't be disheartened by my case though, he also didn't turn with accupuncture, homeopathy, positioning exercises, flashlights, ice packs or begging. There was a definite physical reason he couldn't turn.
Best of luck!!

It did not work for me. We looked into the evidence for it, and there is a small amount of evidence from not very good studies and of small numbers of people.
We decided to try it because I really did not want a caesaraen.
It was uncomfortable (you have to hold the stick very close to your little toe - close enough to feel the heat). I had to use BBQ tongs and it was really uncomfortable.
I felt a bit stupid doing it, and did it twice a day for 10 days. The smoke made me cough. There was no discernible difference in my daughter's movements whatsoever.
I don't think that I would bother with it again. I was booked in for ECV, but my waters broke so had to have a CS. I had a weird bilobate placenta, and it was thought that this may have had a part to play - it would have been quite likely that the ECV wouldn't have worked because of this.

Started with an accupunturist on the moxibustion so see what happens in the coming days. Hopefully he or she turns.
