DS 18 months has always been an okay sleeper. Never the best but far from the worst.

Over the past few weeks he's been a nightmare. He wakes sometime before midnight every night fair screaming (like from the get go) and sometimes takes a couple of hours to settle once awake - going down for ten to fifteen minutes before starting up again.

He settles to bed perfectly at night with no assistance.

He doesn't seem like he's in pain once up and seems happy enough chilling on our knee.

Any ideas? I'm getting desperate.

Have you thought about nightmares??

Ds used to do a similar thing and it turned out that were nightmares caused by alot of changes and unsettledness that he had going on in his wee life. J would be happy too once he was fully awake until we tried to leave him.

The sleep store have a good description of the difference between nightmares and night terrors.

Other thoughts would be teething-Even if the teeth aren't cutting through they are moving in the gums. Does he have his canines through yet?? Me and most of our coffee group found these the worst of the lot.

I know you don't think it is pain but being on your knee being happy might just be enough to distract him from any pain. Have you tried meds??

Just some ideas. Good luck
