Hi ladies

DS has hand foot and mouth, I havent taken him to the Dr as he has had it a few times before so I know what it is, he has it mildly so far - one or two blisters on lip and a couple on hand and foot.

Last time he had it really bad and I ended up getting one blister on one finger and one on my foot

Anyway now that I am pregnant I am worried about catching it again!

From what I have read its rare to catch it as adults anyway and since I caught it last time Im hoping I have some immunity? and also from what I have read its rare to have any issues although it can be an issue in the third trimester if you are giving birth when you have it

In saying all that has anyone else had it when pregnant or been exposed to it when pregnant and not got it?

Oh bigger - poor Jayden!
Give your OB a call - that's what you pay him for

I caught it when I was pregnant with K, they did offer me tests and stuff and I ended up declining. It was tests to confirm I had it which involved having two sets of throat and anal swabs two weeks apart...ick! and then they were going to do a u/s of baby but by then I would of been about 16 weeks as i was 14 when I caught it.
Anyway I searched the net high and low as neither my gp or the OB he talked to seemed to actually know much about it and all I could find is that it's dangerous if you get a prolonged fever above 38 and it can be bad if you get it late pregnancy when you risk giving it to the newborn and that you stay infectious for a few weeks after symptoms have gone cos it's still in your poop.

Anyway K is fine and I don't think from what i read it's any worse than getting any other cold virus (hand foot and mouth is a type of cold virus, it just has more distinct symptoms)
