I was thinking today what is there when you are out that you can eat that is still allowed in pregnancy but also healthy?
You cannot have sushi, pre-prepared salads, rolls and sandwiches from the bakery, kebabs and the list just goes on & on & on!
It actually annoys me so much because its all the unhealthy stuff you can have like pies, burgers, fries etc. and I have to avoid that stuff due to a risk of having GD again! And sometimes it feels like the risk of catching what you might catch from the healthy stuff is so slim but we have had the fear drummed into us that we must not eat any of it and so instead we have no healthy options.
If anyone knows of anything you can eat while on the run that is healthy I would be grateful if you could share.

I had subway even though its an apparent no no I just go to a really busy place thinking they would go through their salads pretty quickly

Yep I had subway - I know somebody who owns a few Subway stores and she ate while pregnant. I just usually didn't get lettuce and got a hot one or got it toasted.
If you know somewhere that you have eaten lots of times and trust their hygiene standards then I don't see a problem.

Subway here too, I would always have a nosey at their salads though and if they didn't look fresh (as in browning already) then I skipped those + you can get it toasted too...
Another idea would be to go somewhere where they make the food from scratch rather than pulling it out of the chiller and heating it.
Or taking your own...

I had subway too, and I had it a lot! I agree, I just checked the look of the food and the staff.
ETA: You can ask them to make up a fresh sald for you using fresh stuff, or salad etc, just ask them to wash everything thoroughly. That way its as if you had made it yourself at home.
Better to be pedantic about everything, and get yummy stuff made fresh i guess, who cares if they stare at you strange :P

I had GD with my pregnancy and found it really annoying as my job meant I was out of the office a lot and not always with much notice, therefore, no time to prepare something suitable. There is a limited amount of quick food available that you can have while being pregnant and have GD (or trying to avoid it as in your case)
I did have subway once or twice but since you cant really have a lot of the preprepared salads (due to pg), the meat/cheese/bread combo was not good for the GD side of things.
I often left work 5 minutes earlier and would pop into a supermarket. Id grab a bread roll, and then a few bits of fruit and/or veges. Surprising how much a carrot can fill you up and doesnt blow your bs levels through the roof.
Good luck, hope you dont get GD this time around - it really does limit further your already limited diet!!

Subway here too but I always get them to toast it, McD's does have healthier options now which are fine in pregnancy.
I changed my diet a few months ago to try loose weight and coz i want to go into the next pregnancy already eating healthy. so i kicked the unhealthy place off my list of take out stops a while ago.
i just wish mcd's did their wraps with wholemeal wraps as an option.

Sucks being vegetarian and pregnant too as that rules out heaps of stuff. I don't trust subway a lot of the time coz I know they don't change their gloves and go from one food to another so even when not pregnant I am slightly suspicious lol!
I just gave up and all I ate when out was hot chips which is obviously a no go for GD!!! I used to take snacks with me tho!!

I had subway all the time!
Maybe just pack your self some snacks and make your own sammies before you go out?
I just used to get things I could heat up, or just ate the junk food lol

I nearly had to postpone my wedding because me and my bridesmaids all had the most horrific food poisoning from stopping at subway for lunch. No way in the world would I touch it when pregnant. Although, I can't stomach it at all now anyway. Nothing like eating it in reverse to put you off it permanently
I mostly took my own stuff. Lots and lots of fruit. I'd also take fresh bread rolls, savoury muffins etc (that I baked myself, without meat or anything *bad* in them.
When I had to eat out, I'd usually go for a cakey item - carrot loaf or something. Not ideal, but it didn't happen too often either.

Oh my gosh T-Rex! I had food poisoning at my wedding too. Just me though, everyone else in the bridal party were fine.
I had a McD's chicken burger ... I'm sure that was what gave it to me. But now I'm pregnant I eat chicken burgers from McD's. I alway say I'm pregnant and ask them to make a fresh one up for me.
I also eat subway. Not the ham or beef ones, always something hot and choose a wrap instead of bread simply to watch my weight.
I eat kebabs too .... (I'm really naughty) The places I go to have A grade food ratings and it's surprising how many people serving you will pay extra attention to the preparation if you make a note of telling them you are pregnant.
I will often go to the supermarket across from work to purchase lunch. I stock up on fruit, crackers and tinned tuna. Much cheaper than buying lunch from take away style places all the time too.
Good luck!

I have had a couple of rice balls from sushi places after asking if the rice was still warm because they make it from scratch. Honestly I am addicted to sushi so that has been the hardest thing to give up (and I thought it would be wine!)

I use the 'chop chop chicken' cans. I am just guessing it's ok, it is pre-cooked chicken, but it's liked canned tuna and that's ok, right?
It's not the best chicken you've ever eaten but it's 'lite' , fast and I can keep it in my drawer at work for weeks without worrying about it going off.
Anyway, fresh bread and a can of lite mayo and mustard chicken.
I also struggle to eat on the run and over the holidays out and about I've had a LOT of chips. I'm less paranoid this time than with #1 but knowing a lady who had 3 MCs before she became a food nazi and finally had a baby makes you a bit more paranoid than most. (possibly unrelated to food but you can never tell)

There are so many rules, you kinda just have to decide which ones are over the top and which work for you. I consider that cafes have pretty high standards required of them anyway so I don't have a problem with buying something from a popular cafe. Otherwise I buy things like processed cheese and/or sliced meat from the deli at the supermarket - so long as I eat it right away, which isn't generally a problem
