Hi everyone,
New here and this is my first post - just needing somewhere to get things off my chest! This is my first baby so I haven't been through any of this before!
I am feeling a bit down at the moment as I am coming up to 17 weeks and have no visible baby bump.
I am overweight but have managed to be losing weight during my pregnancy (Best diet i have ever been on!) And i have been doing my best to be as healthy as possible but because of my belly i have no noticeable baby bump to speak of
Baby was semi-planned but also a bit of a surprise - I had been trying my best to lose weight and hubby and i decided we would try and just see what happens, but nothing seemed to have been going on so we sat down and agreed that we would save some money, i would lose even more weight and we would try again seriously early next year - the NEXT day i found out i was pregnant!!
I am SO over the moon but its just upsetting me that i am not showing - when people find out they look at me like "really" and it just hurts. With ALL my family back in my home country of Australia I don't have anyone here to talk to...this seemed like a welcoming place.
I just wish i could feel like a normal pregnant woman.
thanks for listening! Megan xx

Dont let it get you down Megan. My stomach didnt pop out until just after the 32 week mark, before then I just looked a little bloated. It also does not necessarily have anything to do with your weight, as I would say that I am average, and didnt really have anything to lose around the tummy area. I do also agree that it is the best diet that I have been on. If you can enjoy not having the bump as so far I have got through my pregnancy without having any strangers invading my personal space to touch it.

Seriously do not worry about it! Soon enough you will be showing, and thinking OMG, look at how massive my belly is!
My SIL didn't show at all until she was about 28 weeks, then all of a sudden she popped out. It is really normal not to show at 17 weeks. So as long as you and baby are healthy then I would try not to worry about it.
And congratulations!

Congratulations
My friend didnt pop out until nearly 32 weeks! Before that you couldnt tell at all - she said the advantages were that she didnt have to shell out for expensive maternity gear AND no one touched her belly
Enjoy your little bump while you can, soon it'll pop out and you'll be suprised how quick it can happen

Congratulations on your pregnancy.
I'm so sorry to hear you don't have anyone to share this with you (nearby). It is so hard ay.
Pregnancy brings on all sorts of hormones and (in my experience) it's really common to have a period of time where you feel really low and down about things. Completely normal. I had the exact opposite problem to you - I pop out to be really big from really early on so get lots of "when are you due comments" early and it can get you down too.
Just take time to remember little bubs growing inside you. Soon you will be getting lots of kicks etc (If not already) so you will know bubs is safe and growing.

thanks guys, its nice a have a place to come!
weeheebaby - I thought I felt a kick at the start of the week - It was like little balloons popping 4 or 5 times in a row but nothing since - I know its still a bit early so I have been trying to not let it get to me but now im not sure if it was bubs or just my imagination lol - The friday before I had a midwife appointment and we got to hear the heart beat again and where i thought i felt the kicks was where the heart beat was and I know in the 2 days between experiences its possible the baby just flipped but now im just totally confused lol - i guess because its my first baby im not really sure of anything

congrats on your baby!!
I can sympathise with you and not showing. I was, still am I guess, a lot over weight when I got pregnant. I was really sick at the beginning and lost 8kg! Now at the end I have put a total of 15kg on but thats only 7kg over my pre pregnancy weight so Im happy with that...so is my MW!!
I didnt really start showing until after 28 weeks... until then to strangers, I just looked fat, to people who knew me I look pregnant. Your bump will pop out eventually, and the plus side of not really showing is that you manage to save money on maternity clothes... Ive hardly had to buy anything!!
Also the balloon popping feeling definitely sounds like movements to me. Also when you have your next scan (round 20 weeks?) make sure you ask when your placenta is located cos if you have an anterior placenta (attached on the front) then you wont feel as much movement until later and baby is bigger...
Also dont forget to join your 'due in' thread on here...it makes things sooo much easier to be able to share with other mums to be going through the same things at the same time, also helps when you dont have a lot of support IRL...

I'm around the same gestation and a larger lady. I'm not showing at all either. I have a 15 month old and worked up to 3 weeks before he arrived. When I went back to work when he was 6 months old alot of the customers asked where I'd been and were surprised I'd had a baby as I didn't look pregnant apparantly! So not expecting to 'look' overly pregnant this time either.
Come and join us in the Due in May 2011 thread :)

What weeheebaby said is so true, i popped out at about 8 weeks, it was ridiculous. By 14 weeks i didnt fit regular clothes and from 18 weeks onwards it had to be maternity pants or nothing. And you get constant "when are you due/is it a boy or a girl/is it your first/wow you're so big, is it twins?" comments which is a huge PITA. That and a big belly just begs strangers to stroke it apparently, because i get that a lot as well. I'd swap with you
Oh, and i got irregular bubbles from about 17 weeks every now and then - but i didnt get any real, obvious baby movement until about 24 weeks so don't fret if you're not getting the crazy movements some of the other ladies do.

aw man, if your a nut job I'd hate to think what you'd think of me
Just to reassure you (cause I re-read your original post) you are so completely normal, even though you may not feel like a normal preggy woman, everything you've said so totally is
And I second (or whatever it's up to by now) joining in on the due in XXXX 2011 thread (whatever month you are due). I've found great encouragement from the dec 2010 thread

Seriously, i'd feel something that *had* to be baby, sometimes i'd see a little kick even and then not feel or spot anything for another three days or even a week! But you get better at recognizing the movements and honing in on them and soon enough you won't be able to ignore them

I'm overweight and didn't feel any movements with DD1 until 23 weeks, but did feel a bubble around 15 weeks with DD2. Anterior placentas both times.
I didn't really show until five-six months. Don't let anyone make you feel stink. It is quite possible to have healthy pregnancies and healthy babies.
Good luck! Enjoy yourself!

There's 3 of us at work preg at the moment,
16wks - big bump, it's her 2nd and she's so happy about it I think she's dressing to show it off already. (slim build)
17wks - can't see a thing, she was in jeans & fitted tshirt the other day, not even a slight rise, 1st baby (slim build)
19wks - It's hard to tell if it's me or baby bump because I started with such a big tummy, but it's got a bit bigger - also 2nd time round.
When DH was a baby, at 8 mths people couldn't believe my MIL was preg as her bump was so small.
If MW and scans say all's ok. Smile to yourself and wait for the kicks, they're so special.

Thanks guys, the support is so helpful!!
Felt some soft rumbling/fluttering in my lower tummy while laying in bed this morning and told hubby i thought it was baby but he told me i probably just needed the toilet!
Feeling some slight pinching type feelings there now but spoke to my midwife last week and she said those sort of pain type things are completely normal so im not thinking about it too much.
hope everyone is well

Tell your DH that all the PG and ex-PG women here say that it's your baby moving and we probably know more about it than he does

I've been finding the early kicks come and go, sometimes it's a whole day without noticing any.
I reckon it's like earthquakes (wellingtonian) most of the time people can't even feel a 4, but if they're quite and in the right place they might even feel a 3.5. So there are probably kicks all the time that you don't feel because you're getting on with life.
When the little one is bigger, their kicks are bigger so it's harder to miss them.
If that sounds like crazy pregnant lady, then sorry.

I try not to worry too much now because I know its still early and that its my first baby so usually you dont feel it until later anyway so trying not to obsess but i dont know if it really is bubs or not as i can really only ever feel them when my hands on the bump.
no you didn't sound crazy at all Issacsmum

Megan, the little movements (bubbles) you are feeling are really normal but you will probably only feel them while you are still, until a few more weeks pass. So some days you won't feel them at all and that's all fine. You'll feel baby move every day in the third trimester.
As far as baby bumps go, everyone is different but sometimes it can depend on your height and weight. For me, I am light weight to average but I'm pretty tall and that means my babies have more space to hide ("in my back"). I don't really show until say 20 weeks and I can do without maternity clothes until after then too. Right now I'm 36 weeks and about 100cm around my belly button.
