Hi,

So for the last few days, I am in pain, just under my boobs or top of bump, I guess around my ribs, it feels like I am just so squashed, it feels tight and makes my whole front ache, last night even going to bed didn't ease it much.

I am sat most the day in an office and am finding sitting makes it worse but its getting to the point where its hard to focus on much but the pain.

Is this just stretchy pain, or is this perhaps I should call my midwife pain????????

I get this to only on my right hand side right almost where your boob touches the top of your bump.

i dont get it every day but most days I thought it was just a stretchy pain or even more like i have sat the wrong way & it is an ache.

I'd give your MW a call. It could just be stretchy pain, but worth getting it checked out. If nothing else, she might have some ideas to give you some relief!

are you wearing underwire bras? I got bruised ribs with ds from wearing underwires for too long - took about a week or so to heal after I swtiched.

I get rib pain at the front where boobs join the bump and had it last time too - for me, it's caused by the ribcage expanding, and one of my ribs being out of alignment with my spine, and the pain transfers around the front.

Sitting makes it way worse for me too I have to say not being in an office environment this time around has been great - while the pain is still there, it's manageable, whereas last time I was in agony every day from about 26 weeks till when the baby dropped. (and yes, the pain disappeared almost overnight once she was down into my pelvis more..... can't wait for that to happen this time!)

Exercises I was given by the physio last time - standing against a flat wall, and having arms up & bent (like a cactus pose!), and pushing arms flat back against the wall; trying to lie in the same position as previously on floor (within reason of course - don't want to black out! ); and just trying to sit as infrequently as possible.

Hope some of that is of any use? If in doubt, call MW though!

Thanks Blondy, that is exactly what my pain sounds like and now i think about it I do remember some pain towards the end last time which went when the baby dropped, but not quite like this.

I was also wearing underwire bras until just a few days ago and got some relief just from switching, I hadn't realised how big and heavy my boobs had got, so maybe its a bit of both.

Will give MW a call though and just see if there is much else I can do.

About to go into a two hour meeting which is plain sitting - OUCH

I would def be checking with the mw, it is probably just baby running out of room (ouch) head under your ribs or a bum! Or it could be something else like gallstones (which was my case) or a problem with your bras not fitting correctly anymore.

But better to be on the safe side and just ask, no question is too silly or whatever and your mw will be able to give you some answers/advice/tips etc.

I have this too, i believe its due to baby pushing all my insidey bits up and my ribcage having to expand to cope...though i have a couple of broken ribs on each side and that probably doesnt help.

Ring your midwife just so she knows, and she might be able to give you some ideas to help.

Mine said that the chemical your body releases to relax your joints (whatever thats called, anyone know what i'm talking about??) can relax your cartiledge in the ribs which causes aches when they stretch around. Sorry that isnt written very clearly, but i hope you can work out what i mean!

I think you mean 'relaxin' Bowie. Thanks for this. I am also getting some pain in the rib area, but more around my back. The explanation makes complete sense!

I also had this pain last time, it was excruciating sitting down all day. I spoke to my mw about it who just said it was muscular and there was nothing that could be done. I hope it eases up for you!

ooh fiona i have this too! i just assumed it was cause i was getting pressure on ribs, feels like they are really badly bruised and its really uncomfey all the time!

i get it more to the left, i wonder if baby spends more time on the left and thats why, but in general right across my ribs hurts pretty much all the time, sitting is worse though and makes work hard like you said..

i actually thought it was cause i was short hehe.. and baby didnt have much room in me..

Mine appeared overnight more so on right hand side... Turned out baby was laying on my Kidney tract and it swelled... Still wee bit sore now but have to sleep on left and that has helped loads...

Hi there,
I had the exact same thing/ I went to see a pregnancy osteopath and she said it was the pain of the ribs expanding as the fundus moves higher up into your ribcage area. It was totally relieved in one sessio with her (Which also helped baby move around a bit to take the pressure off). I also found that when the baby dropped down a bit at 34 weeks or so, it became a bit more comfortable.
Did you know your ribs have to expand 9cm! No wonder it hurts!
Good luck and get some help for sure, it is a horrible feeling!
