Hi, We moved DS into a big boy bed on friday, we hadn't planned on it, we bought the bed and set it up in his new room and then I got the bedding and made the bed up and he loved going to the room and talking about it, then when I put covers on the bed at naptime he got in and asked for milk and cuddles so I thought we'd try. He told me to go and close the door, so i did he didn't nap but then he is like that in a cot, just happy talking in bed. Anyway 1st night he slept through thanks to exhaustion from missing a nap, last two nights he has woken twice both times we have found him on the floor either lying down trying to sleep on the cushions i put by the bed, or like last night, standing in the corner next to the bed just sobbing as soon as you put him back in bed he settles straight away, he also goes down really easily, happy to go to bed and sleeps just fine, so don't want to go back to the cot but not sure what to do about the falling out thing, i also wonder if he doesn't fall out so much as wiggle around heaps and find himself stood by the bed all confused. Tips -or will this just stop, I know its early days. -------------

Sorry no help really, we put Sophia in a bed a week ago, has not fallen out or got out, but she is still in her gogo bag, is quite attached to it so maybe that helps her stay put, was Finn in a sleeping bag in his cot still, if he was you could use it in his bed for a few weeks & see if it helps? Also do you tuck him in really tight, maybe get a larger top sheet so there is lots of sheet to be able to tuck in? When we go to bed we check Sophia, if she has moved we put her back under the covers & tuck in in tight and she seems to stay out till morning.

It did just stop with Jody. The first few nights she did fall out, or maybe climb out and get lost and upset. But after a few nights she was fine.
Now our problem is that she has discovered a small gap under the door so she prefers to sleep on the floor so she can peep at the hallway action. We just put her back to bed a few times and she eventually sleeps there. -------------

My first thought is that he doesn't know how to get into the bed when he falls out or doesn't know that he needs to get back into bed? Do you pick him up and put him in or let him get in his self?
You could try a rolled up towel under the bottom sheet along the edge of the bed to make a bit of a bump so that to fall out he would have to roll up and over. ------------- http://lilypie.com">  http://lilypie.com">

We put the cot mattress under the bed and when it was bedtime/nap time we pulled it out so if she did fall out she had a soft landing. 
Oh and she was still in he gogo bag as well which I think helped Good luck  -------------

Gabrielle fell out of bed for the first two or three nights and she has never fallen out since. She still moves around heaps but somehow subconciously she seems to know where the edges of the bed are now. Thats really normal, he will get used to it :)
Caden fell out of bed so much to start with, or he would fall asleep on the floor by his door etc But now he's been in a big bed for about 4 or 5 months he is really good :) ------------- |

We got a portable railing that could attached between the mattress and the base. Got it from K-mart but other baby stores should have something similar. The attachment folds up so you can store it or travel with it.
Also we started off with just the mattress on the floor so not far to fall out of bed if she did. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

It will stop! The towel under the mattress definitely helps. Dan fell out consistently for the first week, every couple of nights for the next few weeks, and in the last six weeks, has only fallen out once (about an hour ago and I couldn't get back to sleep!). ------------- Mum to two wee boys |

Thanks everyone. I have tried tucking in tigher and rolled up towels so mattress tilts a bit towards the wall and maybe its working, no issues last two nights - yay. its so cute seeing them in such a big bed when they are so little, fingers crossed this works, will leave it like this for a while until he is more used to it. -------------

hmmm so its been a week fallen out 4/7 nights, guess we keep going DH is doing the late night shift as i'm pregnant and has started leading him by the hand and showing him how to climb back in, he was in a sleeping bag before so maybe we should give that a go. he goes straight back to sleep so i guess thats good. he is so happy in the big boy bed so i'm comfortable that we moved him, he was always a big wiggler so this was going to happen i suppose -------------
